It’s disappointing to see members of Downpatrick & County Down Railway(@DownRail) continue to troll across social media - not just around the Circle Line Campaign, but also towards groups advocating for the reinstatement of the historic Derry Road route between Portadown and Derry/Londonderry, a project championed by @IntoTheWestRail. At a time when the All-Island Strategic Rail Review has created more positivity, more momentum and more unity around improving rail across the island than we’ve seen in decades, this kind of negativity makes very little sense. Heritage rail, modern rail expansion and community advocacy can all complement each other. We should be focused on building better connections, not tearing down ideas or volunteers who are working in good faith. Constructive debate is always welcome - coordinated trolling is not. @FundTheNINE @bradley_steve
Disappointed to see some heritage rail volunteers continue to attack the Belfast Circle Line campaign. Instead of working together to push for better rail solutions in NI, they’d rather tear down ideas that could benefit everyone. Constructive debate is welcome - trolling is not.

Neighboring towns and nearby cities need a direct and efficient connection by bike just as much as they need roads.

19/ Christmas Market – is fantastic draw but suffers from its own success with overcrowding, meanwhile Custom House Sq lies vacant. CHSq could operate at same time, with food carts/indie market stalls and a. Ice rink, with curling(UK’s first) b. Roller skate disco c. Mini golf

26 relatively cheap ideas to improve Belfast City Centre TOMORROW and over the next 6 months. Belfast HAS stuff, but even a diamond needs a polish every once in a while. A thread 🧵...
Was in Belfast today for the first time in ages. It's a pure hole.

Three airports, each with a train line adjacent, yet not one connected to a terminal. Its not that hard to join the dots up.
🚆✈️ Straight off the train and into Manchester Airport. Imagine that! Heading home from BIPA, frustrated at the slow progress on reopening the Knockmore Line. The track is already there! Connecting Belfast International Airport, as well as communities in Ballinderry & Glenavy to Lisburn & Belfast would be a game changer. Time to actually deliver! @CircleLineBT #knockmoreline #laganvalley

Airport rail connections in NI are probably the easiest problem to solve as most of the infrastructure is already there but the sheer amount of political will and cross departmental co-operation you'd need to actually do it is staggering.
This is exactly what the Belfast Circle Line campaign is working towards. Connecting both Belfast International and Belfast City Airports by rail, not just to the city centre, but to communities across Greater Belfast. A reliable, affordable alternative to driving, taxis and airport buses. 🚆✈️ #openknockmore #belfastCircleLine

#Belfast ...are you listening? @CircleLineBT 🙏
Having a train that takes you directly to the airport is genuinely one of the top 10 things a city can offer. No expensive taxis, no sitting in traffic, no begging someone to drop you off. Just get on the train and arrive at the airport. Every major city should have this.

The thing is that Belfast can do this with both airports and the track is there for one & nearly there for another. The cost is mostly the new stations.

Mon @Translink_NI / @TranslinkPress - a significant number of Derry ones stranded at Grand Central Station because the single decker 212 at 16:40 was full & sure the rest of us can just wait! It's Friday. It's 5 O'Clock. Has the logistics woman clocked off? 🚌🚌🚌

Great to attend the QUB sustainable travel event ‘lessons from the Fleadh’ and hear from speakers including Anne from Walk Wheel cycle trust, from Translink and DfI. Belfast has to move away from cars and towards walking wheeling and cycling if we don’t want to grind to a halt

Why don’t drivers feel the same way towards on-street parking as they do about bike lanes?

York Street interchange needs a complete rethink. Belfast needs to pivot away from car dominance and the money would be better spent elsewhere.

For a project which would simply move congestion from the M2 to the Westlink and waste enormous amounts of money in the process this gets a lot of talk. Do none of these people actually think through how quickly congested the York Street Interchange would be?

The whole York Street Interchange project needs looked at again. If YSI goes ahead, it needs a complete rethink: 🚆 Double-track the Dargan rail bridge before construction starts to allow for more rail services during construction 🚲 Create safe, attractive walking and cycling routes 🌆 Deliver usable development land, not more dead space 🌳 Put a green shelf or park over the junction to reconnect communities and tackle pollution Belfast deserves better than another roads-first project
Appalled to receive confirmation from Sinn Fein Finance and Infrastructure Ministers that £400million secured by DUP for "York Street Interchange project and other priorities" has been spent with no progress on YSI . A disgraceful failure to deliver. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/area/…
