A response to the prevalent & idiotic "America bad" narrative of modern history, presented one day after the 25th anniversary of 9/11: -Saddam starts war of aggression against Iran, causes over a million deaths; -Saddam commits acts of genocide against Kurds in north and Shiites in south, killing hundreds of thousands; -Saddam starts war of aggression against Kuwait, annexes territory into Iraq; -Gulf states implore the US to intervene, which they along with allies do, liberating Kuwait; -US & UK impose sanctions regime on Baathist Iraq to constrain its established intent to initiate wars of aggression & institute no-fly zones over northern & southern Iraq to stop anti-Kurdish and anti-Shiite mass murder campaigns; much of the global left decry these actions as inhumane and imperialistic; -Bin Laden orchestrates the worst terror attack in world history, murdering thousands of innocent men, women and children in cold blood. His justifications are based on his frustration with the US's righteous actions against Baathist Iraq, his disgust with gender and sexual equality in the West, and conspiratorial antisemitism. Many leftists then attribute his actions to "blowback" for purported US misdeeds in the Middle East; -US engages in justified war against Taliban regime in response to their hosting of al Qaeda and refusal to hand over the perpetrators of 9/11. In the process, the US effectively liberates Afghanistan's women and minorities, and invests heavily in Aghanistan developing a more human system of self-governance; -In Afghanistan, the vast majority of civilian casualities are attributable to jihadist violence (suicide bombings, roadside bombings, and other militant attacks intentionally directed at civilian populations, coalition forces, and state entities); -US invades Iraq on questionable pretext, helps establish imperfect democracy. In doing so, the US overthrows a genocidal authoritarian regime, and effectively liberate the long-suffering Shiite and Kurdish populations, who taken together constitute a substantial majority of the population; -In Iraq, the vast majority of civilian casualties are attributable to Sunni jihadists and Shia death squads. On the Shiite side, much of this violence is supported, funded and directed by the IRGC. In total, more civilian deaths in Iraq are likely attributable to Iran than the US. -Every year, leftists, third-worldists and Islamists (closeted or otherwise) implore us on the anniversary of an unjustified mass killing of American civilians to remember "millions of victims of US wars" when the US wasn't responsible for the vast majority of the deaths, was fully justified in invading Afghanistan, and overturned an implaccably genocidal and expansionist regime in Iraq (the latter of which the left, having opposed the sanctions and no-fly zones that contained againdt it, would have allowed to regain strength and continue its crimes against Shiites and Kurds). Don't let the Mamdanis, the Medea Benjamins & the Hasan Pikers of the world twist history. The problems of the Muslim world are endemic to the Muslim world, and regularly spill out to cause global harm. The US isn't responsible for this, and has in fact operated to mitigate the harms caused by extremism both globally and within the Muslim world.

How can it be that the stakes are SO HIGH that nobody can criticize Abdul or ask for concessions about issues they care about, but they aren't high enough for Abdul to stop this bizarre defensiveness and strange refusal to actually disavow antisemitic behavior?

Actually, the course you recommend —prioritizing her political future over her most basic values — would be the cynical one. All Abdul had to do was denounce the ad and not produce another one featuring America's most powerful antisemite: your texting buddy, Tucker Carlson. That he's chosen the path he has says everything.
Abdul's campaign didn't make this stupid fucking ad. The ad never ran on Michigan TV. She's trying to sabotage @AbdulElSayed's campaign over something he can't control, but in reality @HaleyforMI is destroying her own political future with this cynical shit.

Very worthwhile post. Israel's founding was by no means a victimless affair. But the elevation of the "Nakba" into a world-historical tragedy really comes down to effacing the Holocaust by confecting a Palestinian disaster of comparable - or in some tellings, greater - magnitude. – at Cardiff, Wales
It's so not politically correct to say, but it's historically true. The Nakba was once a thing... that meant that the Arab world needed to stop being so self-defeatingly aggressive, the exact opposite of what it stands for now. Hear me out on this. Constantin Zureiq was the first notable guy to use the word "Nakba" in his 1948 pamphlet Ma'na al-Nakba (the meaning of Nakba). What he wrote was a political, military, and moral self-critique of the entire Arab world. He didn't mean the "Nakba" to refer Palestinian displacement. How could he? The Palestinian identity as an Arab ethnicity didn't coalesce for over a decade afterwards, anyway. Zureiq used the word "Nakba" to shake the Arab people and their leadership out of a self destructive denial. Written during a ceasefire that everyone knew was going to lead to an Israeli victory, Zureiq pointed out the stark reality that seven Arab states had declared war on a bunch of hippie farmers and overeducated guerillas and gotten their asses kicked. Not just a little, but a lot. The Arab states lost land, face, and failed to stop the creation of Israel. He wrote it was: "not a small downfall - naksa... It is a catastrophe - nakba - in every sense of the word." Unlike today's mythology about the Nakba, which blames it all on some allegedly fundamentally evil Zionists, Zureiq argued that the it was self-inflicted due to Arab weaknesses. In particular, the extreme infighting among Arab states, idiotic underestimation of the Jews, and severe social and structural weakness. Ironically, given today how the Nakba casts displaced Arabs as wholly innocent victims and makes no mention of who attacked who, Zureiq explicitly warned Arabs not to deflect ownership of the tragedy by simply pointing fingers at others, claiming that that true recovery from the catastrophy required facing their own failures. So what did he propose the Arab world do, other than stop blaming other people? He told the Arabs to fix their stagnant, tribal societies that were self-aggrandizing and hostile to science and technology and face that the Jews won because they were highly mobilized, technologically advanced, and unified. That's right, the term "Nakba" originally was meant as a call to stop pretending to be the victim and start building a modern, educated, secular advanced state. It's kind of disgusting how ironic it is, given today's use of the term Nakba, isn't it?

I am tired of the DSA telling me only their vote has to be earned, while my vote is * expected * b/c if I don’t it might help Republicans hurt minorities. If y’all knew that would happen, then why TF did y’all withhold your vote in 2024?

Again the whole point of the exercise is to get Democrats to eat shit and like it.
the fact that AES would rather throw away the unity event two days before the election instead of condemn Hasan Piker's uncles antisemitic ad actually does make me think he might just genuinely be antisemitic because why do you throw away something so substantial to stand your ground on something so meaningless?

The number of non-Jews telling Jon that the ad is not antisemitic tells you everything you need to know about the state of antisemitism in America.
The ad is anti-Semitic. (Also pretty glib and tasteless, but whatever!) I'm not lying or paid to say this. I don't equate being anti-Israel with being anti-Semitic. but also not saying the word "Jewish" isn't the one weird trick you want it to be. Only good that can come from you promoting yourself at the expense of Abdul's campaign in the final days of an election where the stakes are so high is that you've created an opportunity for Abdul to denounce the ad and demonstrate his commitment to opposing anti-Semitism on the left and representing Jewish voters in Michigan as a Senator.

It should almost go without saying that the current project to characterize the post-October 7th war in Gaza as a "genocide" is just another iteration of the same trick. As Zvi Rex put it, "the Germans will never forgive the Jews for Auschwitz", and neither will the Palestinians. – at Cardiff, Wales

October 7 should have been compared more prominently to the 1929 Hebron massacre.
Replying to @Palestinia12961
The ethnic cleansing of Jews from Hebron is not the flex you think it is.

Estava conversando com um amigo que disse que eu estava exagerando ao falar do antissemitismo que os judeus sofrem. Tirei minha kipá do bolso, ofereci a ele e disse: “Coloque e vamos dar uma volta”. Ele não topou o desafio.

I care less about which party wins the Senate and the House than I care that @AbdulElSayed loses. (Seen below with Hasan Piker, @hasanthehun.)

This is why I’m going to continue to call out Democrats both in office and out who demand that Jewish people support this raging bigot. You wouldn’t do it any other minority, stop doing it to Jewish people.
Absolutely disgusting from Abdul El-Sayed. What Roland Martin gonna say about this though?

The people who called out Corbyn and Labour antisemitism from within were also called saboteurs and right-wingers. The anger being directed at Haley Stevens is entirely predictable.

I keep seeing this line that this is all about “Jewish feelings” like some guy didn’t ram a truck filled with explosives into a Jewish daycare a few months ago. Like the bondi slaughter didn’t happen a year ago. Or the firebombing of the elderly Jews in Denver.
Every single election for the rest of our lives will be about Jewish feelings. Humiliation rituals will be mandated for anyone who's ever made an AIPAC donor somewhat uncomfortable.

Piker was a surrogate for El-Sayed -- on five occasions during the primary! Seems pretty easy -- and politically necessary -- to condemn this type of threatening rhetoric.
This kind of insane, unhinged, repugnant and hateful rhetoric threatens every single one of us in West Bloomfield. It is this kind of rhetoric that radicalizes people and incites them to violence.

Are Arabs really in a position to lecture Israelis about democracy and equal rights, given that Arab states are mostly authoritarian regimes that persecute their religious and ethnic minorities? When is Saudi Arabia going to be a state for all its people?
Very important to approach things with honesty, just like this Israeli judge who clarifies the meaning of Jewish State, in accordance to Israeli law, as one where citizens are discriminated based on their origin .

I guess @AbdulElSayed decided it wasn’t clear enough that his “my commitment to Jewish safety is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters” bit — is a bunch of bullshit.
