There are a lot of reasons to be wary about a Medicare for All plan:
1. The cost... people will point out that total healthcare spending is projected to go down, but it's not so simple to "move" the money that's spent in the private market today into government coffers to spend on M4A. It's logistically difficult but moreso it's politically difficult. People don't like taxes more than they don't like paying their employer for a benefit. There will also be people who pay more in this new tax than they paid on their old employer plan, they won't be happy either.
2. A main reason that overall costs would be projected to be lower is that Medicare has WAY lower reimbursement rates for providers. M4A basically represents a mass defunding of hospitals and providers. If you look at healthcare professions in other countries they are all paid way less. Big salary cuts for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, x ray techs... you get the idea... is not going to be popular. But you're forcing hospitals to take massive revenue cuts with these reimbursement rates so what else is there to do, labor is their largest expense.
3. Complete government control of what is and isn't covered, how everything is administered, etc. It's Sarah Palin's "death panels" but real this time lol. Obviously we have a ton of people on government plans already, and government run healthcare is fine if it's run by competent people who want to see it succeed and know what they are doing.
The problem is that our country has a political party hell bent on making public goods and services worse and now they're full of cranks and kooks like RFK. I would much rather a system with private insurers where I can shop around vs. being forced onto a government plan run by a nutjob.
4. Most people like their current insurance plan, most people are covered by insurance, and we don't need to do this massive disruption to the system to cover the people who are currently uninsured. We can expand the safety net, offer a public option, lower the age to buy into Medicare, etc. There are plenty of "boring" reforms that would accomplish the goal of universal healthcare, they're just not as flashy or sexy as Medicare for All so a lot of people don't care because it's not actually about healthcare for them, it's about politics.

Not being away from your child for a single night in 3 years is mind blowing. Even if you don’t do this you and your husband should plan a staycation or something.
My friend wants to plan a couples, no-kids weekend getaway, splitting the cost of a large AirBNB, in January for her 30th birthday. I really do not love this idea (husband is mortified), neither to spend the money nor to get someone to take the toddler for 3 days. It would be a 2.5 hour drive away for us, too, so it’s not like we’re close if something happens. I haven’t been away from him for even 1 night yet and he still just seems so young! It would be very hard to leave him for that long.
Am I just a party pooper who needs to get over it? Genuine question. Like I actually need advice here guys

Every day, I’m reminded why a certain group of people are so miserable, and it’s because they do not value community or camaraderie in the slightest.
"journalist" lmao
Replying to @sneako

turek could run an ad saying he wants to murder alt-center people and i would still vote for him because i know a democratic senate majority wouldn't do that. some of you guys have let the internet rot your brain and you want validation from weird online freaks
So tired of people’s politics just being endless wish casting, you don't get to decide what the voters care about, and repeatedly lecturing them about how they should care about the things that you care about isn't a good electoral strategy.
People who have kids often become self obsessed hovering freaks it’s insufferable.
Parents were not always like this (you can’t leave your two year old with a trusted love one for a weekend, really? You need to be with them EVERY day no matter what ?)

the cowardly thing about John Oliver in my opinion is that he never ever ever ever ever challenges the biases of his overwhelmingly liberal audience or presents them with any information that might cause them to question their existing beliefs. it’s all just partisan comfort food
HBO's @LastWeekTonight has a long track record of citing social science findings without the appropriate context, massaging them to support whatever point @iamjohnoliver is trying to make.
John Oliver Warned Against Cherry-Picked Studies
Then he cherry-picked his own.
This is a GOATed idea but it can't only ever work one way lol the leftists have to take this tact sometimes as well
He says this as if Iowa independents like trans women in female sports or taxpayer funded sex changes lmao
Imagine making your entire career talking about politics and knowing so little about it
If you’re not an Iowa voter who has voted for Trump before then please shut the fuck up because you’re not the intended audience of this ad
If you’re criticizing this then you’re not a swing voter in Iowa.
This tracks. It’s just too good to justify not using it.
We obviously haven’t had the major jobs wipeout yet. But you read stuff like this. And you read what economics students themselves are saying about working with AI (ht @odavis_h) and it’s hard not to feel like the seismic shift is on its way.
Are we gonna be attacking people on the left over looks because I have to say the lefty DSA folks may not want to open that can of worms
Keith Edwards & Vanguard Pod CAN'T STOP LAUGHING at Hutch
Vanguard: We bullied Hutch out of his lip ring. This was a grown man balding with a lip ring
Keith: But this man is bullying me on the internet. I'm
being cyberbullied!
Vanguard: They're going to make their lane, I'm a simp for the most hackish and corporate Democrats imaginable.
Keith: I think the Democratic Party is going to make a terrible choice and start to engage with these folks.
Tell me more about how people are not denying biological sex.
Every time I mention this issue my mentions get flooded with people claiming that the trans movement OBVIOUSLY does not deny sex.
And also other people who claim trans women are actually female
Lmao
“It's why I oppose males competing in female sports"
FUCK OFF
Its not about the sports issue. Its about misgendering and demeaning an entire community. Fuck you @turek4iowa. I wish Wahls has won the primary.
Enjoy senator Ashely moody, you specifically deserve her.
leftists will just take any one Democrat that says something they don't like and pretend they represent the totality of the party and criticize every Democrat on that basis.
This is a few people in red states taking a position that that'll never actually get passed in a Democratic majority congress because it will never even come up for a vote.
Bad faith or stupid, it's always so hard to decide which it is.
Why don't you guys focus on persuading voters in red states of your positions and that way Democrats in those states won't have to cater to these views. This position probably has 70% support in Iowa!
“Don’t judge us based on our platform which is decided on by the members of the organization!”
Is fucking deranged. Yeah the candidates aren’t “running” on abolish the police because they have three brain cells, but there’s no reason to believe they actually disagree with the platform unless they specifically call it out.
We’re literally just criticizing the positions the org puts on their website. What are we doing here.
Kyle Kulinski: Centrists using Fox News talking points to attack the left, like bringing up these unpopular ideas in the DSA platform
Tim Miller: The DSA platform is crazy though, maybe just change it.
Kyle: The ones you would consider crazy like abolishing prisons or open borders—none of our candidates ran on those things. Do you agree with me that's basically a Fox News talking point that centrists are echoing against their left flank?
Tim: Yes. I agree with that in part.
God he’s so cringe
Abdul El-Sayed, in an interview with Jonathan Cohn of the Bulwark, had this to say about those who oppose what he called his “righteous fight”:
“If you’re coming to kick down what we’re building, I’ll fight you. Like, I’m not afraid. So I was also the kid in AP classes getting suspended for fighting.”
"This is like taking campaign money to buy a billboard to announce your own DUI"
@profgalloway on the Ramaswamy ad lmao
