Great coaches make the little things mean something. Cori Close does that over and over in this clip. “You don’t just become tough. You earn tough.” She’s not just talking about toughness. She’s teaching players that toughness is built through what they repeatedly do. Then: “Can we call passes and names every single time because that’s a point of discipline and character?” That’s what great coaching looks like. Take a small behavior and connect it to a bigger standard. Calling names on passes isn’t just communication. It’s discipline. And over time, those disciplines shape character. Then she says: “Ang, you made that happen. Good job on that flash.” Not just “good job.” She tells the player exactly what she did well so she knows what to repeat. That’s the art of coaching. Be clear about what you want. Explain why it matters. Recognize it when you see it. Reinforce it until it becomes who your team is. Because what you consistently teach, notice, and reinforce eventually becomes your culture. Connect the little things to the bigger things. Then reinforce it again and again. Great coaching is often found in the details.

A HUGE misunderstanding in shot mechanics!!! There is a major difference between a dip & a hitch. The two get confused too often
Watch the ball dip before Steph shoots... The dip allows the ball to travel up first, then his body attaches under... ELITE sequencing I've never understood the myth about not dipping the ball. It is necessary and is a positive a large majority of the time.

In my 9th year of coaching you’d think I’d be able to spell “personnel” without second guessing it every single time 🙃

Those who truly understand the depths of a hug like this…. Lucky. Coaching is a lifestyle of constant highs & lows, dedicating your life to help others achieve THEIR dreams. And when they do…. It’s an unreal feeling. Why we do what we do 💙
this hits so much harder now

This, this this. Trust is EVERYTHING.
Urban Meyer says you can only lead someone as far as they trust you “My definition of leadership used to be: set a standard and demand all live up to that standard. And then you start thinking, how shallow of a, that has nothing to do with leadership.” “The job of a leader, absolutely first and foremost, is to earn trust. You can only push and lead a person as far as he can trust you.” “The best group of coaches that I’ve had, the best thing that we’ve done is we’ve earned their trust because they understand we care deeply about them.” “I didn’t say anything’s going to be warm and fuzzy. I didn’t say anything’s going to be easy. But we care deeply. I mean, like, deeply about them.” “Once those players realize that you care deeply about them, now you can really expound upon that definition of leadership.” “The first part is earn trust, and then, with extreme clarity, set the expectations and inspire and equip the people to fulfill those expectations.” “But before you can do anything, you have to earn their trust. And that’s where I think a lot of leaders fail. Coaches fail.” “We’re very instrumental in getting to know the players’ families, getting to know what their dreams are after football. Once the players know, ‘Wait a minute, this guy can really help us, or this staff can really help us,’ that’s when the trust takes place.”
