Feeding Our Future's 23rd Defendant Sentenced to Prison A 23rd person has been sentenced in the massive $250 million Feeding Our Future fraud scandal. United States Attorney Daniel N. Rosen announced that Abdinasir Mahamed Abshir, 34, of Lakeville, Minnesota, was sentenced to 78 months (6½ years) in federal prison for his role in the scheme that stole hundreds of millions from the Federal Child Nutrition Program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Abshir ran a fraudulent meal site (Stigma-Free Mankato) under Feeding Our Future’s sponsorship. He and his co-conspirators falsely claimed to have served more than 1.6 million meals and received roughly $5.4 million in federal funds based on those fake counts. He also paid over $100,000 in bribes and kickbacks. The sentence was enhanced because Abshir attempted to tamper with a cooperating witness during the 2025 trial of ringleader Aimee Bock and co-defendant Salim Said. He approached the witness in the courthouse and tried to get him into a bathroom for a private conversation. Abshir previously pleaded guilty in March 2025. He must also pay more than $2 million in restitution. U.S. Attorney Rosen: “Today’s sentence makes clear that justice is not for sale, and those who try to buy their way out of accountability will not succeed. Our office is committed to protecting American taxpayer funds.” This remains one of the largest COVID-era fraud cases in the country. Accountability continues.

The flag’s the one thing that ties every American together, no matter where you’re from or what you believe. It’s a daily reminder of the ideals we’re supposed to stand for: liberty, justice, and that “all men are created equal” promise in the Declaration. When we say the Pledge, we’re promising loyalty to the republic the flag stands for, not to a person, a party, or a king. For everyday citizens, it’s a symbol of belonging, of shared history, and of the freedoms we’re all supposed to protect. Some people get choked up seeing it at ball games or town squares because it hits them right in that “this is my country” feeling. The flag stands for liberty, unity, and the promise of America. It’s the symbol we all share, no matter our differences. When we pledge allegiance, we’re promising loyalty to that idea, one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all. It’s what brings us together as Americans.
