There is so much that could be said about this week's giveaway.
I will simply hit the main points:
A man, Jordan Salinas, who seems to dig Splinter Cell went from live action role play to live action and likely saved many lives in Twin Falls, Idaho at the @innoutburger in doing so.
We celebrate that in today's litigious culture this man chose to risk his life and his liberty by doing the righteous thing. He held to his convictions by going armed and by running towards the direction of gunfire, of imminent danger. Reports are that he rendered medical aid after the gunfire ceased, as well.
In honor of this man and that masculine sacrificial heroic American spirit that runs, not away from conflict, but that fights for the opportunity to get between evil and goodness, and effectively, Rascal is proud to do a little LARPing himself.
Today, dressed as Jordan, Rascal offers up an FN Five-seveN 5.7x28mm pistol with fde frame and black slide!
We thank @SummRidge for sponsoring yet another giveaway!

The piece he drops on the ground is the serialized part the ATF says kills people--

That ol' Rascal. He really got himself into something deep this time. A lofty motivating thing for sure, and that'd be the Word of God. That goodly critter spent a some time with @WarPath2pt0 and his Iron Counsel and they've been in Matthew and Luke meditatin' on lost sheep. That got Rascal thinking there might be a shepherd out there in need of a new piece to keep back the wolves and he has made his decision.
This week for HARVEY'S FAMOUS WEEKLY GIVEAWAY Rascal has a @Ruger_Firearms RXM 9mm with @AimpointUSA COA! We also want to thank @SummRidge who is, as always, helping us spread the good news here at Harvey's!

The Kickstarter ploy here is what's gross. Last year at a Formnext party, a Chinese founder was bragging after a few drinks that he got his factory and land free from the government, I just checked, of course they ran a KS too 🤦
The playbook is simple: wait until the new tech has all the dead ends solved, start a company, take the subsidies and tax breaks, and milk the Western community.
The new Creality IPO paperwork is a rare glimpse into how this works, if anyone wants to dig. But it is very surface level. For deeper research into this topic you'll need a Chinese phone, bank account, etc to access most of the source. Because of course - no one can fact check this way or if local, get into trouble 😬 (My father couldn't even study before '89, the communists took our family's property two generations earlier.) Since I started saying publicly that we're researching this, a lot of previously public documents have quietly disappeared 🤔
The CCP state support worked too well. In the last 6 years the desktop market got wiped, 95% China, the remaining 5% is Prusa. The billions being dumped into it are not just for the benefit of the Western consumer. I should do a longer write up after Makerfaire Prague!
BTW It would be too funny if these are the guys we caught in our locked private room checking the CORE One INDX prototype the night before the Formnext reveal 🤣

Idea
Every company wants you to log in to their website to see your bill.
Energy. Phone. Insurance. Council tax. Water. Subscriptions.
Sixteen passwords just to find out who’s taken your money.
Turn it round - One personal account.
If a company wants paying, they log in to YOUR site and place the bill there.

This is astonishing. @davetrott
This from @Geoffrey_Cox was titanic - a truly beautiful speech.
He outshone those sat opposite. They could only watch. And nervously laugh.
This should be seen by every new MP to understand what they do, & every new barrister to understand what we do.

Better yet: if budget is not balanced then members of Congress become ineligible for reelection.

Term limits would be great. I really liked the idea of “budget not balanced” they don’t get paid. Of course that would really kill all the fraud opportunities.

Most AI, business, and marketing advice fails for the same reason: it assumes humans decide rationally. We don’t.
20 takeaways from @shaneparrish’s podcast with @rorysutherland
1/ Hot take: people don’t want the “perfect answer.”
They want choices to compare.
Humans cannot decide in isolation.
Any AI that gives one answer misunderstands decision-making.
2/ Choice requires contrast.
We only know what we like by preferring it over something else.
Remove comparison and you remove confidence.
3/ Most companies optimize efficiency in the wrong place.
They focus on cost reduction.
They ignore value creation.
The biggest gains are psychological, not mechanical.
4/ Automation often destroys invisible value.
You save money.
You lose trust, warmth, and loyalty.
The spreadsheet never shows that loss.
5/ People don’t judge brands rationally.
They judge them like people.
One bad human interaction outweighs 100 good digital ones.
6/ Trust is how humans reduce downside risk.
When we can’t evaluate the product, we evaluate the person selling it.
7/ This explains why people pay more when they like the seller.
They’re not buying features.
They’re buying safety.
8/ Marketing is not advertising.
Advertising is a tool.
Marketing is the long-term work of finding and keeping customers.
9/ The most underrated growth lever in business is a great call center.
One excellent human can undo years of mediocre marketing.
10/ Private and founder-led companies often outperform on trust.
Not because they’re nicer.
Because they’re not forced to optimize for next quarter.
11/ Marketing and innovation are fat-tailed.
A small number of ideas create most of the value.
Quarterly thinking kills breakthroughs.
12/ Paying creative work by the hour is a category error.
You don’t pay for effort.
You pay for asymmetric upside.
13/ Rationality is not the highest human faculty.
It dominates spreadsheets.
Emotion, instinct, and context dominate behavior.
14/ Status signaling isn’t a bug in human nature.
It’s a feature.
The question is whether it’s channeled into positive-sum outcomes.
15/ Big innovations need more marketing, not less.
You’re asking people to do something new and alone.
That creates anxiety, not excitement.
16/ The best technology rarely wins.
The most adoptable technology does.
Specs don’t change behavior. Experience does.
17/ Nerds optimize numbers.
Customers optimize feelings.
The gap between the two is where brands are built.
18/ Over-reliance on rules, metrics, and legalism crowds out judgment.
Common sense scales better than compliance.
19/ Real success isn’t optimization.
It’s expanding the adjacent possible.
Push the pebble forward.
20/ If you only listen to spreadsheets, you’ll build efficient failure.
If you listen to humans, you’ll build durable value
