Many trans people — especially Black trans women — have made their priorities pretty clear. They’re begging to have an opportunity to live life without the fear of violence and without rampant unemployment. It’s us listening to like 17 yr old shit posters that’s part of the problem.

I agree with some of the strategy here: Americans do have an inherently libertarian streak, and Democrats and progressives would be smart to lean into it on a range of social issues. But there are a lot of young people on this app, so I want to be clear: trans advocates played an important role in the fight for marriage equality, just as they have in every civil liberties win we've achieved. Part of OP's critique is fair. The public face of the movement has increasingly become online activists who do take this position. But part of why this is bubbling up is that many non-trans gay people have repeatedly pushed the more urgent civil liberties needs of trans people aside for the sake of political expediency.
