I've been reading analyses on what the Lula campaign did in the last three weeks to win.
One of the most effective things they did was to convince people who are already on Lula's side to actually go out and vote. Resulted in a massive voter turn out.

Lula is personally a socialist. But his victories have come through allying with centrist figures and promising markets that he wouldn’t rock with deficits. He has never re-nationalized the companies Cardoso and Bolsonaro privatized. His greatest achievement is a means-tested cash transfer program. And he made Brazilian Mitt Romney his VP and ran his 2022 campaign on saving Brazilian democracy.

Urgency was arguably the source of the energy behind the Lula campaign that led to his victory. But that urgency came about because of the first round results.
