This deserves much wider distribution than it has gotten so far. Being negative is so easy and resonant, but the long view is always optimistic.
The year is 1854. Cholera is killing thousands in London. John Snow traces an outbreak to a contaminated water pump. Everyone blames bad air. Eventually cities separate sewage from drinking water. Clean water and sanitation will save more lives than almost anything medicine invents. The year is 1867. Surgery is often more dangerous than the disease it treats. Joseph Lister starts cleaning instruments and wounds with antiseptic. Other surgeons ridicule him. Infections plummet. The year is 1890. Your daughter has diphtheria. A thick membrane is forming in her throat, slowly suffocating her. The doctor injects a new antitoxin. She survives. A disease that killed tens of thousands of children will become almost unheard of in America. The year is 1922. Your 14-year-old son has diabetes. He is starving to death no matter how much he eats. The only treatment is a starvation diet. The doctor injects insulin. His blood sugar falls. Children who would have died within months will grow up and have children. The year is 1943. Your daughter has pneumonia. Before antibiotics, doctors could do little but hope. Now they give her penicillin. The fever breaks. Infections that routinely killed healthy adults become treatable. The year is 1955. Parents are terrified of polio. Swimming pools close. Children become paralyzed. Some spend their lives in iron lungs. Jonas Salk develops a vaccine, tested in more than a million children. Within decades, polio disappears from America. The year is 1960. Your wife is giving birth, and something goes wrong. A century earlier, she might have died. Now there are blood transfusions, antibiotics, safer cesarean sections, and anesthesia. Maternal mortality has fallen dramatically. Millions of women survive childbirth who otherwise wouldn’t have. The year is 1978. Your blood pressure is 180 over 110. You feel fine. The doctor prescribes a pill. Clinical trials show that treating hypertension prevents strokes, heart failure, and death. You take it every morning. Nothing happens. That’s the point. The year is 1980. The WHO declares smallpox eradicated. A disease that killed hundreds of millions in the twentieth century has disappeared from nature. Not treated. Not managed. Eliminated. The year is 1996. Your brother has HIV. A decade earlier, the diagnosis was effectively a death sentence. Now doctors combine antiretroviral drugs. People who had months to live begin living for decades. Many will have near-normal life expectancies. The year is 2014. Your father has hepatitis C. For decades, the infection has meant liver failure and cancer. Now he takes pills for twelve weeks. The virus disappears. A lifelong infection becomes curable in more than 95% of patients. The year is 2019. Your daughter has cystic fibrosis. Her lungs are slowly failing. For decades, treatment meant managing infections and delaying the inevitable. Now doctors have a drug that corrects the underlying protein defect. Her breathing improves. Hospitalizations plummet. Predicted median survival rises from roughly 40 to more than 60 years. The year is 2026. Your doctor has ten minutes and a screen. Your blood pressure is high, so the tablet is for life. Your cholesterol is high, so another tablet is for life. Your weight is high, so she offers an injection. The drugs have side effects. Not everyone needs them. But clinical trials show that appropriate treatment prevents heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, and death. None of these treatments is perfect. None needs to be. For most of human history, parents buried their children, infections killed healthy adults, and childbirth killed young women. Today, global life expectancy has more than doubled since 1900. Child mortality has collapsed. Medicine has made terrible mistakes. We should remember them. We should also remember the hundreds of millions of people alive because somebody got it right.

If Israel was “bombing Gaza indiscriminately”, why did those indiscriminate bombs kill under 2% of women, 6% of men, but “discriminate” against 100% of these generals? Could it be the IDF was, in fact, as discriminating as it’s possible to be in an urban warzone? Generalocide.
These are Sinwar’s generals—Mohammed Deif, Marwan Issa, Ahmed al-Ghandour, Ghazi Abu Tama’a, Mohammed Odeh, Izz al-Din al-Haddad, Ayman Nofal, Rafa Salama, Raed Saad, Mohammed Shabaneh, Hakem al-Issa, Bassem Issa, Raed Thabet and Mohammed Sinwar—laughing as they planned their war to destroy Israel. Israel killed them all, and all their allies, up to Nasrallah and Khamenei. They failed totally.

No, counting can be done in a few hours, and there's no excuse for it not to be. If Florida can do it every state can. It's a failure that erodes confidence in our elections. We should not continue to normalize it, and slow states deserve to be accused of fraud. CA taking a month is outrageous.
If you go to bed on election night and don't know who won a midterm congressional race, that's normal. And if you wake up the next morning and find that a candidate who was behind hours earlier has since pulled ahead, that's normal, too. (via @PolitiFact) to.pbs.org/4zqnWBa

AUSTIN MAN slams into a stopped minivan at 103 mph on Mother's Day, right in front of a cop, and kills a fire captain hours after his fifth son was born. DA Jose Garza's office asked him to pay a small fine. Marvin Taylor was on his way to pick up his four other boys so they could meet their new baby brother. He was sitting at a red light on Koenig Lane when a Dodge Durango doing 103 in a 45 zone slammed into him and threw his van 150 feet. He died pinned inside. The officer found the driver, Rodney Bremby, with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech and stench of alcohol. He was charged with intoxication manslaughter, which carries up to 20 years in prison. A judge revoked his bond twice while the case was pending, and both times he was back out within two weeks. On Monday he got 10 years of probation, community service, and $535 in fees. Five boys have lost their father, and the man who killed him just had to pay a small fine and promise not do it again before going back home.

Little man syndrome; Abdul has no idea what he's talking about. Proud to say, as Pete's dad, he was an absolute star on the court in HS. Captain, all-conference, all-state player...earned! We parents cheered him on, yes. That's what families do-support each other. #Envy makes him bitter.

If you listen carefully it’s a misplaced anger at his own parents for not making him feel worthy that turned into raging jealousy of other children who had parents that lifted them up and poured into them. He’s projected all of that onto white people. He needs to mend his heart before thinking about running for any office. White ppl haven’t hurt him. He knows exactly who did. Notice how he doesn’t get the satisfaction he was craving when the interviewer simply anchors himself & doesn’t validate that experience. We should all do more of this. Don’t validate anyone’s experience for the sake of temporary bonding.
Democrat Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed rants about how white kids had it better than him when he was a kid.

This resonates with me, although my experience was almost the reverse. I grew up in Dubai pre Abraham Accords, so I had zero interaction with Jewish people growing up. I did, however, hear plenty of antisemitic jokes & comments. What often confused me was that most racist jokes seemed to revolve around supposed racial inferiority. But with Jewish people, it was the opposite in that they were supposedly too good at making money, running businesses, and accumulating influence. Maybe it was my Asian striver cultural mindset, but even as a kid I remember questioning why being good at those things are somehow undesirable? Fast forward to Duke freshmen year. All 4 guys on my side of the dorm were Jewish and so I ended up rushing and joining AEPi (about 2/3 Jewish at Duke). I have genuinely never felt excluded for not being Jewish. I was regularly invited to Shabbat dinners at the Duke Chabad, where Rabbi Nossen was one of the kindest person who I’ve ever met. And eventually, the guys even elected a practicing Catholic (me) to be their fraternity president. Meanwhile, I’ve noticed something strange in my other social circles, particularly among my more socialist-leaning friends. People who would recoil at the slightest insinuation of racial stereotyping in any other context will note Jewish overrepresentation in media, finance, technology, and then suggest that these activities are somehow inherently parasitic. This has made me suspect that there is a correlation between certain forms of antisemitism and anti-capitalism. Whether a fundamentally zero-sum understanding of the economy makes certain antisemitic narratives particularly attractive. Consider that the Jewish people, leas than 0.2% of the world’s population, account for 1/4 of individual Nobel laureates and approximately 40% of economics laureates. Whether you see this as evidence of an “international Jewish conspiracy,” or what becomes possible within a culture that places enormous value on learning, curiosity, and debate; that regards the world as God’s creation, worthy of being studied, understood, and repaired; and that emphasizes family, community, just charity, and mutual responsibility, is probably correlated with whether you see success itself as evidence of value EXTRACTED, or as evidence of value CREATED for the wider world. Perhaps what appears to be the resentment of a particular group reveals a deeper resentment of the very virtues, norms, values, and propensities through which human prosperity and progress is created.
I grew up around primarily Jewish people. It wasn’t till about two years ago when I realized a majority of people are actually incredibly antisemitic. Even my “normal” friends would consistently make jokes at the expense of the Jewish people. The amount of people who would make antisemitic jokes in my presence, has grown within the last two years. But the jokes don’t stop at antisemitism, they carried on notions of white greatness and white nationalism on a grand scale. I am genuinely disturbed at the sheer number of white people who treat this behavior as normal, when I was raised among people where I was the minority and the only girl to celebrate Christmas in my class. I celebrate Shabbat with my jewish friends on a majority of Fridays, I am genuinely in shock at this behavior. We have a huge antisemitism problem in this country.

I asked Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) for his thoughts on the increasingly public dispute between Abdul El-Sayed and Haley Stevens. Here's what he told @jewishinsider: "Rep. Haley Stevens simply held Abdul El-Sayed accountable for his views on Israel and fixation with Jewish money. El-Sayed is going after a woman and banning her from campaign events for having an opinion. El-Sayed's overreaction demonstrates why he struggles with groups of Michigan voters. He has the worst case of little man syndrome I’ve ever seen."

I am not visibly Jewish (except for being exceptionally goodlooking) and I have the last name of someone who could be the senior partner at a white-shoe Episcopalian Law Firm ( Ellis Island really did a creative number on our original family name.) So, yes, I often pass as I stand there listening to the most heinous antisemitism spouting in elevators in LA. It's amazing how truly Nazi 1930s that LA has become.
I have a friend who is not visibly Jewish and doesn't have a Jewish name. He told me, You would never believe how many people are consistently negative toward Jews. I said, I honestly have not really seen that. He said, well, they won't say it to you... yet. I think it is important to come to terms with this. What we do about it is up to each of us.

🚨 JUST IN: Sec. Marco Rubio MIC DROPS Iran to the media 🫳🏻🎤 "Think about what we're saying here! The Iranian regime is basically arguing is, 'unless we get what we want, not only will we BLOW UP SHIPS, but we will DESTROY the energy infrastructure of our neighbors in the entire region!' Just think about that, because I think we skip over that, like that's some sort of NORMAL behavior. That's not NOT behavior!" "JUST IMAGINE if Iran had a nuclear weapon!" "Then they wouldn't be threatening to blow up pipelines. Then they'd be threatening to kill tens, if not HUNDREDS of thousands of people. That's who we're dealing with. So I think the fact that you even have to ask that question is a reminder of the nature of the regime that we're dealing with." Rubio is right. A regime that holds the world's oil supply hostage can NEVER be allowed near a nuke, and Donald Trump did the right thing Every Democrat who wanted another Hussein-style deal with these maniacs is on the wrong side of history. Iran only understands strength.

Wild that during an indiscriminate bombing campaign, the IDF accidentally managed to take out all of Hamas’s leadership. Are these the unluckiest dudes ever or what?
By the way, each and every one on this picture is dead and confirmed dead by IDF and Hamas Named as they sit from lower left side through the center and then down to the lower right side: 1. The moment you convince yourself that you’re so right that the only way to disagree with you is to be a bigot, you cease to be a person whose opinion on the matter should be considered valid.
The fact that the campaign against AES is entirely baldfaced lies about supposed statements and associations tells you it is phony: 1. You'd never tank the Senate over fake outrage. 2. The real reason for the opposition is has to be something else (and it is).
