I made a quick visual to complement the recent story of Google 'illegally' cutting down over 250,000 trees for a new data centre in Finland (thanks to Claude and free Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite imagery). Earlier this month, Finland’s permit agency ordered Google to stop work at its planned data centre sites, after around 330 hectares of forest were cleared at Muhos before the required environmental impact assessment was complete. The visual below clearly shows the Muhos site from July 2025 to October 2026: the forest is intact into autumn 2025 and cleared by early April 2026, followed by stripped soil and site roads. 330 hectares and 250,000 trees are hard to picture, but seeing the same patch go from forest to bare ground within a few months makes the scale much easier to grasp. Satellite imagery is free to use and AI makes this a 10-minute task (that’s what I did). So, I hope more media outlets start complementing stories with satellite visuals - it is more powerful.

Yawn....scratch...scratch...yawn.
SpaceX Blocked A U.S. And NATO Satellite to Assist a Russian Intercept After Crippling Ukraine's Air Defenses The Math Proves the Reality that Musk doesn't want you to see. On Oct 13-14, SpaceX restricted Starshield/Starlink during a 39-missile Russian attack, cutting Ukrainian drone intercepts by 23% and stranding U.S. personnel in Kyiv. Forty-eight hours later (Oct 15), SpaceX blocked U.S.-licensed NRO, Space Force, and NATO radar satellite ICEYE-X36 in orbit so Russia's COSMOS 2612 weapon could intercept it (99.89%-99.98% posterior) Our Model Demonstrates that the Russian intercept of the US/NATO ICEYE X-36 satellite (contemporaneous with the throttling of Starlink) would not have been possible, and almost certainly not been attempted, without SpaceX resources. At a material opportunity cost, Russia sprinted its COSMOS satellite to intercept ICEYE X36. Based on a previous attempt in June during which X36 maneuvered to evade COSMOS, Russia knew that this would be successful only if X36 could not maneuver. On October 15, SpaceX fixed X36 in place by issuing a collision alert for a sub-kilometer approach with its Starlink 35856 when SpaceX's own data shows that the actual distance was 4.8-5.0x as great. SpaceX issued no warning to COSMOS despite the fact that its sprint was far more threatening than the stable X36 orbit. SpaceX did not maneuver its Starlink 35856 satellite to clear the supposed collision risk. How, absent coordination with SpaceX, could Russia have known that SpaceX would take actions that (a) misrepresented the danger posed by X36, and (b) resulted in the fixing of X36 thereby enabling COSMOS's successful intercept? Thus, SpaceX was directly involved in simultaneously compromising Ukraine’s defensive and offensive capabilities. The conjunction of these two events makes innocent explanations untenable. The Pentagon Capture & Iran Round Two Trap: Pentagon CTO Emil Michael who cashed out $7M–$35M from Musk’s inner-circle SpaceX vehicles (M8/Gigafund 0.1 and M6/Valor M33 II) and KQ Partners / xAI (selling xAIfor $5M–$25M three days before taking over CDAO/OSCand 21 days before SpaceX bought xAI, while keeping M8, M6, M9, M10 & Nomadic open) and Pete Hegseth purged rival Anthropic in two hours, surrendered combat command over US drones used to attack Iran to Starlink’s "Terms of Service," and on October 2 named Musk Co-Director of Project Meridian to design the Pentagon's "Future of Warfighting" just as America enters Iran Round Twowith depleted Patriot/THAAD magazines and Russia feeding U.S. warship/aircraft locations to Tehran. SpaceX’s actions in Ukraine raise serious questions about its alignment with US security interests and its reliability as a cornerstone of US defense. These questions are particularly troubling given the effectively irreplaceable position SpaceX has been granted by the Hegseth/Emil Michael Pentagon. $SPCX $TSLA Our full quantitative analysis below w/ @streetwiseprof

And we should demand Russia to return to it's 15th century borders immediately.

Can someone get me a gig in joining these negotiations? I'd like to propose russia withdrawal to its 1462 borders. I mean, while we are at it with the outrageous demands, we might as well go nuts, right?

Well, there were no Nato troops in Finland before he started the war. Finland wasn’t even a NATO country at the time. Putin alone drew Finland to NATO and his country now sharing an even longer border with Nato.

Nope. Ain't happening. Free people wanna stay free.
🚨 Putin plans to use Ukraine peace talks to push NATO back to its 1997 military posture According to The Telegraph, the Kremlin wants to force NATO to scale back its military presence in Europe to levels seen before Eastern European countries joined the Alliance. This could mean demanding the withdrawal of NATO forces from Poland, the Baltic states, and Finland. That is why Moscow is pushing for European countries to participate in negotiations over Ukraine. Diplomatic sources cited by The Telegraph say Putin wants to turn talks about ending the war into negotiations over the entire European security architecture. The issue may also have been discussed during Putin's three-hour meeting with Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in St. Petersburg. However, European countries have previously rejected the Kremlin's demands to reduce NATO's military presence on its eastern flank.

Och, another wee braw day in the Hebrides...nary a need for an extra kilt weight, just 70...or so...
WRF 00Z update on the next wind event for the #Hebrides. First, the Met Office has issued a Yellow Wind Warning for most of Scotland, including our area: weather.metoffice.gov.uk/war… Turning to the forecast, the initial warm front is reaching the islands as I write, bringing a temporary rise in temperature and some rain. The following cold front will arrive by midnight, bringing localised heavier showers and 50+ mph gusts as it passes. As the cyclone centre continues to track northeast, the stronger winds will then reach us in the second part of the night and last throughout tomorrow, according to the latest projections. What's still uncertain, even at this close forecast range, is their geographical extent. See the "curved shape" in the WRF image below? That curve changes run by run: yesterday it was more contained, staying well over the Atlantic to our NW, and today it affects the Outer Hebrides more closely. The next couple of runs will hopefully shed more light, but generally, we can expect widespread 50-60+ mph gusts and, if this scenario holds, chances for 70+ mph over exposed locations.

Currently this contract is for small and costly manpack Lockheed Martin ISR drones. The increase in payload allows for larger drones.
