Busy breakfasts but this morning and a rather happy year group coming out of the exam. One down, three to go!
Thank-you so much to @anthony_mcgowan for his excellent talks today for our students in Y7, Y8 and Y9 📚💕
Lucky Y13 students have staying after school to listen to @mmgiovanelli from @AstonUniversity share his wisdom about Keats’ tragic poetry. A big thanks to Miss Kelly for organising this excellent opportunity @ChurchdownSixth #workhard #aimhigh
John Agard says, on writing ‘Checking Out Me History’ : “The I isn’t necessarily me… Poetry should tease the mind and get them to reflect without telling people what to think
… audiences like to be teased and challenged… you can touch a heart with that type of poetry”
Agard is asked about how poetry has changed since the 80s. He talks about spoken word events, how poetry has become a “good night out” rather than shared from behind a lectern- a positive change.
We have arrived at the pump rooms in Stroud for a praise trip for Y10 and Y11 students - the incredible John Agard performing and discussing his poetry. @ChurchdownSch
An amazing and busy lunch time on the rodeo bull for the finale of the spelling bee! HILLARY ARE THE WINNERS! Great job by all the houses! 🐝
Amy said “Everyone in the play is guilty of something even if it wasn’t the murder of Megan; they all commit crimes - legal and illegal - that shifts us towards believing they’re guilty of the crime when in reality they’re guilty of something else.”@theBarnTheatre
Ruby said “I find it interesting how Rachel, the main character, had such a fascination with crime and what was happening. It’s similar to our own obsessions with what is happening around true crime and finding out if justice can be achieved”
Hannah said “having read the book, I found the differences with the production interesting. Some characters had more focus and a bigger role than in the novel, such as some of the suspects”
A minibus of @ChurchdownSixth students at @theBarnTheatre to watch ‘Girl on a Train’ for our study of the crime genre. Such a great trip!
This trip has SOLD OUT in less than a week! Great work @ChurchdownSixth English students! 📚
We are excited to be able to take our @ChurchdownSixth students to this in the final week of term as part of our genre study of crime fiction. Over half the tickets have already gone - it will definitely be a sell out for us! 🚝🚨 See Mrs Webb in E3 for a letter!
