With all due respect, “personhood” is not a magical trump card that overrides the basic principles of the republican form of government. One cannot conclude from the bare fact of personhood that anyone and everyone has a right to be counted in the census, to vote, or to stand for office.
U.S. bishops are opposing proposed Census Bureau rule changes for the 2030 census, arguing that excluding noncitizens without lawful permanent resident status from the apportionment count would effectively deny them recognition as persons.

Fr. Francisco Suárez figures as perhaps the greatest thinker of Second Scholasticism and his Disputations are certainly among the most important philosophical works ever written.
We are happy to announce they are now available on the ScholaThomistica.

Most card carrying Thomists are actually Scotists on their concept of being, in how they formulate analogy, and they don't even realise it.

New on ScholaThomistica: select any passage in the reader and choose "Quote image" to get a shareable card with the passage, the author's portrait, the work and the section. The card only ever shows the author's own words.

ScholaThomistica now says openly how it uses AI: what it makes possible, how errors are caught and fixed, and why AI translations are provisional, an aid toward reading the Latin, not something to cite unchecked. scholathomistica.com/ai

About to release some BIG findings on my Substack about the anti-Protestant writings of one of the greatest Thomists of the 20th century…writings that were actually praised for their fairness by Protestants themselves.

It’s funny in a slightly grim way to see people rediscovering that the traditional precepts of the natural law are not at all arbitrary moral commands imposed from without, but rational and wise precepts for the conduct of human life, whose violation usually produces disaster in some form.
