"The international day for the eradication of poverty should be the day to eradicate wars around the world. Global military spending continues to rise. @realDonaldTrump's proposed defense budget for 2027 – a record high of US$1.5 trillion, nearly doubling the 2023 budget – is in line with projections estimating global military spending could reach $6.6 trillion by 2035. The buildup of the military industrial complex comes at the expense of common good. A small fraction of annual military budgets – less than $300 billion could help eliminate extreme poverty. $93 billion per year – less than 4% of yearly global military spending – could help address global hunger." - @Mittaloak in @ipsnews

.@WorldBankGroup #WBGMeetings – From Tanzania to Gaza, the World Bank’s Credibility Crisis In Tanzania, 84,000+ people suffer the devastating consequences of its REGROW project, while the Bank refuses to provide reparations despite @InspectionPanel’s findings of “critical failures.” In Gaza, by joining @realDonaldTrump’s so-called Board of Peace, the Bank further undermines its own mandate & international humanitarian law. The Bank cannot claim to champion development while abandoning the communities it harms. @Mittaloak @Oleshangay @MPower_Change @MariaSTsehai @AdalahJustice @codepink @RainforestResq @devex @TheChanzo @isabelchoat @VictoriaKwakwa @bjerde_anna @InspectionPanel

The Asian Financial Crisis erupted 29 years ago. This week, the key actor in that crisis is back in Thailand, holding #WBGMeetings in Bangkok, the epicenter of the financial quake that spread to the rest of East Asia. Instead of playing host to the @IMFNews and its sister agency, the @WorldBankGroup, @WaldenBello and Synth Wannaboworn argue that the Thai government should be suing the Fund for causing the collapse of the economy for @FPIF: @Mittaloak

“The park expansion effectively criminalized over 84,000 people on their own land, stripping them of their livelihoods by barring essential farming and grazing. The Bank’s REGROW initiative turned poor villagers into targets for @tzparks rangers. Despite clear evidence that the devastation it unleashed in Tanzania continues today, the Bank has completely failed to provide redress, compensate or support the communities whose lives it upended” - @Mittaloak #WBGMeetings
.@WorldBankGroup – #WBGMeetings convene, 84,000+ villagers are still waiting for justice and reparations in Tanzania for suffering caused by the financing of REGROW project. You cannot close a case and call it “accountability” while communities bear the consequences of your failures. The Bank’s refusal to take responsibility for the damage it caused leaves a permanent stain on its credibility. @Mittaloak @WorldBankAfrica @WBGTanzania @InspectionPanel @isabelchoat @TheChanzo @AccountCounsel @VictoriaKwakwa @bjerde_anna

.@IPUparliament – As Tanzania hosted IPU gathering under the banner of “good governance and empowering communities,” @SuluhuSamia regime was abducting Maasai men, escalating its repression of Indigenous communities. Its goal? Clear Maasai from their ancestral lands to expand safari tourism and trophy hunting to 8 million visitors by 2030. @Oleshangay @Mittaloak @DenisMoses14 @MariaSTsehai @landislife @amazonwatch @MaasaiMisa2022 @Survival

.@Oleshangay: “The abduction and subsequent detention of our community members is one of the many incidents of lawless targeting of the Maasai people in Ngorongoro – a deliberate campaign to instill fear and censorship, designed to make state dispossession and displacement easy. When a regime normalizes abductions and uses public hospitals as hunting grounds, it reveals a complete breakdown of common sense & basic humanity.”
.@SuluhuSamia regime abducted & detained 5 Maasai men last week. Over 30 community members have been arrested in Ngorongoro over the past 2 months, while thousands of livestock have been confiscated in Loliondo. Human rights conditions in northern Tanzania are rapidly worsening. These are not isolated incidents, but part of a calculated campaign to silence Indigenous land defenders and force Maasai communities off their ancestral lands to make way for safari tourism and trophy hunting. @Mittaloak @Oleshangay @DenisMoses14 @MariaSTsehai @MaasaiMisa2022 @TheChanzo @IAMartin_ @Landislife @Roduza @davidpilling @KaamilAhmed @WedaeliC @WateteziTV @AJEPodcasts @LeMonde_Afrique

As international visitors plan safari tours to Tanzania, they must recognize that tourism revenues are inadvertently financing the @SuluhuSamia government’s violent attack on Indigenous Maasai communities whose ancestral lands are being stolen for safari tourism & hunting grounds. @oak_institute @ndycurrier @DenisMoses14 @PINGOsForum

With recognition of Ms. Pillay, @NobelPrize resuscitates itself! Congratulations to South African human rights pioneer, Navi Pillay, for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize! From fighting apartheid to investigating war crimes in Sri Lanka to Gaza, Pillay has been a fearless advocate for justice & accountability, & an inspiration to human rights defenders all over the world. In her impromptu acceptance speech, Pillay referred to the report on Gaza she recently completed: "The last thing I did is the delivery of the report on Gaza, naming what's happening there as genocide." bbc.com/news/live/ck5yng9zz8… @oak_institute @ndycurrier @FredMousse

THIS SPEECH WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY… Any country that sides with the US will forever lose its credibility to speak on human rights and international law.
