I highly recommend a clingy, lovey-dovey spouse. Life's too short to be with someone who acts like showing love is a chore.

If you're blessed enough to have a spouse that is always there for you, never take them for granted. Things are replaceable, your spouse is not.

This game was one proper development cycle away from being an absolute masterpiece and I will forever stand by that opinion.

It's not "couple goals" until you've sat together in hospital rooms, stood together at funerals, held each other through devastating loss, carried each other through grief, seen each other scared, sick, exhausted, and broken, walked through seasons that changed you both. And still look at each other and think... how did I get so lucky.

Can we put "locker room talk" back in the locker rooms? Every time I express my disgust at sexual exploits and behavior being talked about openly and towards me, I'm accused of being a prude. This completely ignores the fact that I often and very openly discuss sexual matters in an abstract and sometimes humorous fashion. But it is impersonal. And when it is personal, it's vague. It's clinical. As it should be. Some talk is meant to be behind closed doors. We've gotten way too comfortable with "kiss and tell" in the name of being "open, honest, and destigmatizing..." Really, nothing gives me the ick faster than sharing your sexual history publicly, or even privately in a casual manner when I never asked to hear about it. There is a time and a place. Honestly, you as a man can tell me your most depraved, fetishy thoughts and I will not feel an ounce of disgust (assuming all is sane and legal), if you just do it 1) privately, and 2) I agree to hear it. If I didn't ask, if it's not the topic of conversation, then I do not want to know. If you seriously feel that comfortable sharing your sexual adventures publicly (and I will make an exception for if this is the *point* of your account), I think you need to do some serious soul searching. You need take a look at what made you so ungodly comfortable with making private actions with others public. I can't tell if you're doing it because you're that boneheaded, bragging, or trying to demonstrate your sexual prowess. Either way, it doesn't work. All it tells me is this... if we got together... what would stop you from talking about me in the same careless way?

There are times in a marriage that you may not feel in love anymore. Choose to love anyway. There are times when you may not feel attracted to your spouse anymore. Choose to love anyway. Love is an action and marriage is a commitment ... in sickness & health, in good times & in bad. Those vows are sacred.

If a guy treats you like a high-end escort, he’s going to leave you when he finds someone younger and prettier.

Saying "I Do" Means ... * I will love you even on days I really don't like you. * I will think less of my needs & more about yours. * I will laugh with you, not at you. * I will support you. * I will be your biggest fan. * I will respect you. * I will stand by you no matter what. * I will forgive you ... always. * I will love growing old with you.

When a woman says she wants her man to be stoic and never need to be babied, she's rejecting the child in him. She's saying, "I need him to be my father." When a man says he wants a woman he can fall apart in front of, who never needs his steadiness, he's rejecting the child in her. He's saying, "I need her to be my mother." Not that it works in reverse: If you want a codependent hell of a relationship, indulge each other's inner child without boundaries, and swallow your resentment until you explode. If you want an independent hell of a relationship, completely reject each other's immaturity and weakness. And prepare to get dumped and lose all self-respect when the day inevitably comes that you lose your mind and throw a tantrum. Or, you can take the Middle Way: take turns being mom and dad for each other when the other needs it. And work hard on yourself so you don't need it too often, and burn your beloved out. Choose wisely!

After you get married, there will always be someone prettier than your wife, someone richer than your husband. That’s why you better marry your spouse for their soul. So you’ll realize that no one on earth could ever be them. So you’ll stop searching and stay beside them. The search never ends for people who are never satisfied.

Almost everyone I’ve worked with who’s been through a painful breakup or divorce says some version of the same thing: “The signs were there. I just didn’t want to see them.” That’s what happens when you skip vetting and let attraction do the thinking for you. By the time the evidence becomes undeniable, you may have already built a life on top of it: a mortgage, children, years of attachment and a life you now have to untangle. Vetting isn’t something you do over dinner. It’s what you observe over time, under stress, under pressure, under disappointment, through pleasant surprises and in the moments when a person isn’t trying to impress you. Anyone can perform compatibility on a good day. You’re looking for what someone can actually sustain when life gets strange. The cost of doing that work is months of patience and self-control… versus years of untangling, rebuilding and damage control.
