Two weeks into his term, Supervisor Bilal Mahmood hadn’t met with any of us that are impacted by street closure policies. But one of the most controversial figures behind the Hayes Street closure was already putting him on notice, framing the majority opposition as a “vocal minority.”
Mahmood’s reply? “We’re on it.”
That’s not equitable representation. That’s undue influence.

Hayes Street already had a public planning framework: the Market & Octavia Area Plan.
It considered commerce, walking, transit, loading and neighborhood circulation together. Before another closure renewal, revisit what the City planned.

Have serious doubts about Mahmood - SF neighborhoods are not putting up with supervisors that are not aligned with their community values - he should remember what happened to Joel Engardio who stopped representing his district’s neighborhood values.

Since taking office, Bilal has alienated a segment of Hayes Valley residents and small businesses who feel they have no meaningful representation at City Hall.
We've worked with numerous district supervisors over the years and have never encountered this level of sheer disregard. We've repeatedly tried to engage his office on consequential neighborhood decisions, yet meaningful dialogue remains elusive.
His political priorities are his choice. His responsibility to represent his constituents is not.

Hayes Street keeps changing. Who shapes those changes—and who answers for the results?

Week 99. Another weekend of documented conditions on the 400 block of Hayes Street.
Our position remains unchanged: revoke the street closure permit and restore Hayes Street to normal public use.
Nearly 100 consecutive weeks of documentation.

Open ALL San Francisco roads and streets to San Francisco taxpayers who own/drive 🚗 🚙 🛻 🚛 🏍️ enough is enough! Quit closing our streets lanes and roads for BS
The note says it.
Closed for events. Open for the vendors.
The businesses paying rent are the ones writing the signs.

Hayes Valley has accumulated decades of interim public spaces, temporary permits, and neighborhood programs.
🔸Yet the urgency seems focused on preserving one more temporary arrangement: the Hayes Street closure.
🔸Why not revisit the potential of the public spaces we already have?
Our new Public Space Atlas maps the bigger picture.

Wicked evil @Scott_Wiener type morphing our communities without our consent, just like what they are doing with the @openthegreathwy.
Hayes Street’s future didn’t start with a closure permit.
The Market & Octavia Area Plan considered local commerce, walking, transit, loading and neighborhood circulation together.
How does today’s closure fit that vision?

HOW is this supporting SF’s small businesses @DanielLurie @bilalmahmood @sfbos @SFMTA_Muni ??
Stop screwing over Hayes Valley merchants.
Yet another reason the Hayes Street closure needs to end.
During the closure, a clothing retailer sets up shop and sells directly from a truck parked in the middle of the street — zero rent, zero taxes, zero overhead.
Meanwhile, legitimate storefront businesses just feet away continue paying full rent and taxes while struggling with drastically reduced foot traffic.
This is not fair competition.
This is a rigged system that favors pop-ups over actual businesses.
Enough.

No on G continues to mislead SF voters by failing to mention that the park spans 50 acres and suggesting that sharing the 2-mile stretch of asphalt would destroy the park.
They don't want people to know that it sits empty on weekdays while our streets are clogged with bumper-to-bumper traffic.
The Great Highway Compromise would help keep San Francisco moving safely and efficiently. But they don't want voters to know that.
Tax dollars hard at work.
Closed Hayes Street. Scooter and chalk.

Why is a temporary closure still the starting point?
Businesses were asked which version of closed works best. Reopening the street was not one of the options.

Don’t do unto Hayes Valley what was done to the UGH.
The signs have always been there: the fight to preserve Hayes Street as a vital, functioning business corridor is being steamrolled by the very faction (and a Supervisor who has turned his back on our community) intent on shutting it down in favor of turning it into a playground.
To the many San Franciscans who continue to stand with us: we ♥️ you. (FairSF.com)
