The future belongs to designers who build…and who have the spit in them to push past engineering dogma.
Agents are making technology choices most legible to them, time for us to update our priors.
Introducing Code on Canvas in @pendev
AI design tool for Claude and Codex.
Design ❤️ Code are officially in a relationship, opening new ways to create on canvas.
Ask agent to generate custom design tools inside Pencil on the fly, create interactive components, generative art and more, but still keep the full manual design control.
This is just the beginning. Let us know what you think. And let's take it to the next level together.
Download the new Pencil update today.

writing the spec was always the hard part. people just didn't realize it because building was slower. now that building is instant, everyone's discovering that the thinking was the actual product all along

this is something I’ve practiced at @polar_sh since I joined as a founding designer.
we rarely design in figma.
if you can express design with code — then you’ll be incredibly efficient.

unpopular opinion: if you spend enough time vibe coding, you'll eventually learn to code

Tough seeing founders put too much faith in data and research to find PMF
It's like trying to reach London from SF by walking 100ft, asking "Is this London?", walking another 100ft in a random direction, and asking again
You'll never get there

You get paid based on the level of abstraction you can work at.
• Level 1: Here’s the problem, the solution, and how to implement it.
• Level 2: Here’s the problem and the solution. Figure out how to implement it.
• Level 3: Here’s the problem. Figure out the solution.
• Level 4: Here’s a list of problems. Identify the most impactful one to solve.
• Level 5: Find all the problems and determine which are worth solving.
• Level 6: Predict future problems and create systems to prevent them.

I am convinced that future belongs to product designers.
Give designers the ability to code (thanks, Cursor), and watch them create the most beautiful apps themselves. Surely AI can code, but impeccable taste? That'll take a while.

It's been just over a month since my time with the incredible team at @GetSanlo came to an end.
For a year, I had the pleasure of leading all design efforts and had an absolute blast doing it. I'm incredibly grateful for the amazing experience and the opportunity to work with such a talented group of people.
Now, I'm ready for my next exciting adventure! If you know of anyone who might be looking to hire an experienced designer (contract or FT), please tag them or send them this post. Your support means the world to me!
If we've worked together before and you feel inclined, I would be so grateful for a shout-out.
Thank you all for your help and encouragement as I embark on this new chapter! Please like, comment, and share this post to help me reach a wider audience. 🙏

Designers skeptical about Figma's autolayout probably haven't tried coding their designs. Once you do, you'll see everything in code is about stacks and autolayouts. It's a basic principle, not a style choice.
