Diplomats, including from the US and EU, went to ethnically cleansed Nagorno-Karabakh and grinned as Hikmet Hajiyev claimed Armenian monasteries were “Albanian.” Armenia responded—mildly. And absurdly, that mild reaction enraged the so-called “Western Azerbaijan” community.

Hikmet Hajiyev brought diplomats to an Armenian monastery he called “Albanian," then showed a blank volume as "proof" that Armenian history is falsified. The diplomats looked on and giggled. It's not just undiplomatic, it's embarrassing. AZ's claims have been widely debunked.

Today marks the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. As we honor the 1.5 million Armenians murdered by the Ottoman Empire across modern-day Turkey, Syria, and Armenia, we must refuse to let history repeat itself. In 2020, the military forces of Azerbaijan and Turkey attacked the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh. In 2023, Azerbaijan expelled over 100,000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, continuing the genocidal campaign that had begun over 100 years prior. On this day of remembrance, we reaffirm the right of the Armenian people — and all people — to freedom, safety, and self-determination.

The return of 6 7 million Armenians to Nakhijevan, Artsakh, and western Armenia, should not frighten Turks and Azerbaijanis.
Aliyev says Azerbaijanis must return to Armenia, "their historical lands." He says Tsarist Russia settled Armenians in the South Caucasus, thus denying that they're indigenous. Aliyev is implicitly referencing the "Western Azerbaijan" project here, and it's happening more and more as "peace" draws nearer. This is two years after AZ ethnically cleansed the entire Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, promising that they'd have the "right of return"--a promise that has been abandoned by both sides.

Another Azerbaijani participant brought to Yerevan under Pashinyan’s so-called peace agenda was Kyamala (Kamilla) Mammadova, editor-in-chief of the regime-controlled outlet 1news.az. Armenians must take off their blindfolds and see who is being invited to speak in the name of peace. Mammadova is not a peace advocate. She is a regime propagandist who glorified the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh’s Armenians and mocked their suffering. Mammadova was photographed in occupied Artsakh, standing over the desecrated flag of Artsakh and posing in Shushi beside Azerbaijani representatives celebrating the depopulation of the region. These photos, proudly shared by Azerbaijani state media, were meant to humiliate the displaced and turn the destruction of Armenian life into spectacle. Despite this record, Mammadova was welcomed in Yerevan as an invited participant in a two-day “civil society dialogue” held on October 21–22 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel. The event was organized with the support of Pashinyan’s ruling party affiliated organizations and presented as a peace initiative between Armenian and Azerbaijani civil societies. During her stay, Mammadova and the Azerbaijani delegation were received by members of Pashinyan’s administration, including Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan, under the same government-endorsed peace framework. This meeting gave political legitimacy to a person who publicly desecrated Armenian symbols and celebrated the loss of Artsakh. As editor-in-chief of 1news.az, Mammadova heads one of Aliyev’s main propaganda outlets, a platform built to spread disinformation, deny atrocities, and dehumanize Armenians. Her presence in Yerevan represents not dialogue, but the normalization of hatred. Hosting such a figure on Armenian soil under the pretense of reconciliation is an act of moral blindness. The same person who desecrated the flag of Artsakh in occupied territory stood on Armenia's Republic Square as a guest of “peace.”

This isn't surprising. Many of the young "eco-activists" maintaining the AZ blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh were also part of "peacebuilding" initiatives. Azerbaijan doesn't want peace, and uses these sorts of programs to curry favor with the West and develop its diplomatic corps.
Pseudo Azerbaijani “eco-activist” who participated in the blockade of Artsakh, Dilara Efendiyeva, arrived in Yerevan on October 21 to participate as an invited guest at a “civil society dialogue” backed by official structures in Armenia and Azerbaijan under a fabricated “peace agenda.” The visit was not limited to an NGO event. Efendiyeva and other members of the Azerbaijani delegation were received by representatives of Pashinyan’s administration, including Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan. Their arrival and participation were coordinated under the same “peace agenda” framework promoted by the government, granting political legitimacy to individuals directly involved in the blockade and ethnic cleansing of Artsakh. Efendiyeva was invited as the head of Azerbaijan’s so-called “Women: Peace and Security” Center, yet her only contribution to “peace” has been the starvation of civilians. She was among the organizers of the blockade of Artsakh and the closure of the Berdzor (Lachin) Corridor, which cut off 120,000 Armenians, including thousands of children, from food, medicine, and humanitarian aid for nine months. Her public role in that campaign began in December 2022, when she appeared among the so-called “eco-activists” who blocked the Berdzor road under Russian peacekeeper supervision. In a recorded statement, she claimed that protesters were allowing ambulances and humanitarian convoys to pass. That claim was false. The Artsakh Ministry of Health confirmed that patients in critical condition could not reach Yerevan, while fact-checking investigations showed that Efendiyeva and her group’s blockade had completely sealed off medical evacuations. Despite this record, Efendiyeva was welcomed in Yerevan as a “peacebuilder.” She participated in the October 21–22 event at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel alongside other Azerbaijani representatives. The meeting was an event presented as part of a so-called “peace agenda” between Armenian and Azerbaijani civil societies. Hosting such individuals on Armenian soil under the cover of dialogue is not diplomacy. The same person who helped choke off Artsakh’s lifeline is now being presented as a voice for peace.

Today in Romania we celebrate the Day of Armenian Language – honoring the rich heritage of the Armenian community in Romania. A language is more than a communication tool, and encapsulates more than just history and heritage. Languages are key markers of national identity. More fittingly - „languages are the pedigree of nations” (Samuel Johnson). Today we celebrate together with the Armenian community in Romania a unique alphabet, an ancient literary tradition, and a powerful symbol of identity.
