A brutally authentic HyperCard clone running on the web. 😮I'd love to see a more modern take on HyperCard, but this is neat, too. Would be nice if you could import old HyperCard stacks to it. beyondloom.com/decker/index.…

Today I learned... the Fujitsu FM TOWNS system had its own equivalent to Apple's HyperCard, or Microsoft's Visual Basic, called TownsGEAR タウンズギア which featured its own scripting language called GearBASIC

One idiom that Hypercard (yup, I'm old...) had that I've not seen replicated on the web: lockscreen. Prevented the screen from updating until you were done with the transition.

we were gonna have a hypercard halloween but it turned into macpaint instead
hope y'all had a good one

ALT beautiful bob ross style scene of a mountain and clouds and trees reflecting in a crystal clear lake all rendered in black and white pixel art - all of that shared on teejay's screen with may-li leaning forward on one hand watching and below in the chat a halloweenish drawing of a small brick house also textured in old macpaint textures and a mysterious shadowy figure looming, some identified crumbs falling from their claws, while two strange eyes and an unidentified puddle of liquid poor out of the small doorway of the building. in the background, dark night sky and trees. also all black and white pixel art

What's this? Why it's a mouse-controlled Super Mario Kart clone for Classic Macintosh!
At the time of writing there were only 2 google search results and 1 image result for this game.

dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1145/3… is the best account. I didn't have much time to look at HyperCard before "Make It Look Like Java" management/marketing order killed HyperTalk syntax, but the onclick event handler convention stuck. I had a Mac IIci from early '90s but did only a few decks.

Story where the Macguffin everyone wants is not a magic artifact (they’re valuable, but it’s nothing that militaries, governments, corporations, or even rich enough private citizens don’t have already), but something like HyperCard.

Building a commercial “stack” with alpha version of HyperCard 2.0 in 1990 (code name “Snow”), I encountered the following alert, just prior to a crash. (That’s Bill Atkinson’s pic.)
