Thixoforming is a type of semi-solid metal forming that's especially good because it can make parts that are almost finished and need very little extra work. To use semi-solid metal forming, the metal needs to be prepared carefully so that it has the right mix of liquid and solid parts. Image-Pro is a powerful tool in research that studies the preparation process. In a paper titled "The Effect of CRITSIMA Process Parameters on the Microstructure Evolution and Element Segregation of Semi-Solid CuSn10P1 Alloy Billet", the researchers used Image-Pro to analyze the microstructure of the semi-solid billets.
