Actually, considering how the Iowa GOP has driven the state into the ground under single party rule, that seems to boost the Register's credibility...

Zach Lahn - not his in-laws, ZACH- reportedly sold a $5M ski-in, ski-out mansion in Montana in Oct. ‘25.
Since June, the Republican Governors Association has donated $15.5M to Lahn (70-75% of recent cash donations).

Rob Sand’s family sold a $77M Colorado ranch in 2024.
One of the biggest sales in state history. 👀
That kind of liquidity helps explain the nearly $13 million his wife and in-laws have put into his campaign.
That’s not “grassroots.” That’s one family funding a candidate.
Vote Zach Lahn for Governor.

I typically am of the thought I won’t run for Congress again in my new hometown, although it’s bluer where I am than where I ran. But then, I see another Dem candidate fall for the trans bait bullshit in a way that will not get them any additional votes but will cost them Dem votes, and I think about running again someday just so I can run an ad saying trans rights are human rights and that I’m not going to take the bait. Our trans friends are not a political inconvenience. They are 4x more likely to be victims of assault, and do not themselves pose an above-baseline threat to anyone. You can’t be the party of justice and human rights while throwing such a harmed and vulnerable community under the bus. It just doesn’t work.

By this logic, Annie Lahn and 3 of the children Zach claims to father are from a billionaire family. Not hypothetical billionaires; Forbes list billionaires.
.@ZachLahn: "My opponent is from a billionaire family and they're trying to buy this election... but as we go around the state,... we're seeing more and more consolidation and more people come to our team and we believe that this is a race we're going to win on November 3."
TRUMP on HIGH GAS PRICES: We’re making money like we’ve never made before. They’ll say: President Trump is bragging about all the money they're making while people are suffering at the pump. I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune.

Not the main point of this article, but wow:
"Mr. Lahn cast an Iowa ballot in the 2024 general election. But voting records that have not previously been reported show he requested that his ballot be mailed to him — in Kansas."
I did not think to check that!
NEW: Zach Lahn launched his campaign for IA gov surrounded by 7 kids from his "blended" family.
The event came as a surprise to the father of three of the featured children.

RAGBRAI (The Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa) is one of the most celebrated bike rides in the world.
Joe Mitchell: "Thank God you're building the ballroom. Thank God you're getting rid of those awful bike lanes. We don't ride bicycles in Iowa."
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Iowa hosts RAGBRAI, the world's largest multi-day bike tour since 1973 with thousands of riders yearly. Iowa also has extensive bike trails and lanes.

We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Walter, who died last night. This is an extremely sad and devastating time for all who knew and loved him.
Walter was a beloved son, brother, father, and friend to many. His commitment to giving back and making our community a better place will continue to live on through the countless people he touched with Harvest Academy and Character Counts.
Walter lived with mental health complexities. While this is a difficult and painful time for all of us, we know he is now at peace. As we begin the difficult task of making funeral arrangements, we ask that you keep all of us in your prayers and respect our privacy as we grieve. We will share additional information when plans are finalized.
We join all Iowans in praying for Rob, Christine, and their whole family. Our hearts are with them and we lift them up today and the days to come.

So @kwqcnews has denied our respectful request to receive the pre-established debate criteria. I find that to be an interesting response from a news station to a campaign that met the @IowaPress qualifications.
Stay tuned.

Statement on yesterday’s #IA01 debate announcement:
Our campaign was the first independent campaign in modern state history to meet the gold standard debate requirements set by @IowaPress. We promptly accepted their debate invitation in August, while @millermeeks and @BohannanIowa declined to even respond. Our campaign reached out directly to the Miller-Meeks and Bohannan campaigns multiple times in August, in an effort to arrange a debate. We were also not given the courtesy of a response.
Now, suddenly, they have announced they will debate each other, only, on @kwqcnews & @KCRG in October, breaking with decades of tradition of the Iowa Press and PBS.
We found about this only after it was publicly announced. We were not contacted by the networks nor did either campaign respond to our repeated inquiries.
Our campaign has sent a letter to KWQC requesting inclusion and additional information including their official, predetermined debate criteria. At this time, we choose to give them the benefit of the doubt and it is my expectation that professionalism and journalistic integrity will prevail here. The voters of #IA01 deserve to hear from all three candidates on the ballot this fall, and we owe them an honest and complete representation of their options.
It is clear that the two parties coordinated behind the scenes to shop this debate around, in an effort to exclude a candidate that qualified for both the ballot and the debate in historic fashion, and represents the largest voting bloc in the district. For all the vitriol spewed between the parties, see how quickly they are able to work together to maintain the status quo and silence independent voices. When people talk about a "uniparty," this is what they mean.
Ultimately this situation is a perfect illustration of the reality of politics today. The parties feel that this is their seat, their government - not ours. I understand that many accept this, some may even approve of it, but this is not democracy. It’s not government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Watch this morning's whole Q&A with reporters here:

(staff said that would be the last Q before it was asked)
Not sure how often Zach Lahn is taking reporter questions. Sand has been doing that several times a week, sometimes multiple times in one day.

Weird for Zach Lahn to wade in here. He changed his voter registration to Iowa in Oct 2024, and his kids are growing up in another state.
Lindsay James didn't grow up in Iowa but she moved to Dubuque in 2015, is raising kids there, and was first elected to #ialegis in 2018.

Rob is now against monopolies. Better late than never.
I’ve called to break up Ag monopolies since day one which is why the man in the video he reposted is one of my supporters.
@RobSandIA you should listen to the town hall we did together. You may learn something.
