1/8 👋 A quick introduction to Iowa First Check.
We’re an independent citizen-journalism project tracking Iowa’s 2026 governor’s race between Rob Sand and Zach Lahn.
Our goal is simple: keep facts, records and context in the discussion.

Well he surely won’t spend more than the Iowa GOP has. Plus unless they plan to lose the statehouse majorities — which would be bonkers levels of unlikely — Rob Sand won’t have the ability to do what this column claims.
Opinion: Rob Sand is a déjà vu Democrat who'd spend Iowa into ruin | Opinion desmoinesregister.com/story/…
He said IF they wanted to, THEY COULD. Which, they can.
If you think they already don't, then just say "let's amend the law to make sure its explicit that they can't do this, and give someone the ability to make sure they aren't."
At his Iowa City town hall in September, Rob Sand accused Iowa's religious schools of using school voucher funds to buy alcohol.
Meanwhile, Iowa City Public Schools has overspent its capital projects fund by $45 million over the last four fiscal years.
All public schools in Iowa are legally required to perform an yearly audit and report it to Rob Sand's office.
Rob was just too busy attacking school choice parents to stop Iowa City schools from misallocating our tax dollars.
Just a reminder, there is a third-party candidate in IA-02.

You're not the only lifelong Iowan in this race. In reality, I'm the only lifelong northeast Iowan; born, raised, and started my farm right here in Fayette County.

Literally not a Democrat. I'm the intolerant middle no-party type who hates it here. Give me a better option and I'll gladly entertain it, but haven't seen a better option in a while and instead have watched this state get burned to the ground while you morons co-sign it.

Has anyone ever claimed you were John Denver? Big fan, btw.
4/ Iowans are voting early differently, too.
At the same point in 2022, mail accounted for 48% of ballots received. Now: 25%.
Satellite voting rose from 12% to 35%.
Mail distrust? Convenience? More opportunities? The reports show the shift, but don’t tell us why.
3/ Polk County stands out: 49,129 ballots received, up 83% from the comparable 2022 report.
Within Polk:
Democrats: +57%
Republicans: +114%
No-party voters: +184%
Polk accounts for about one-third of Iowa’s additional ballots over the 2022 pace.
2/ Ballots received versus the same point in 2022:
No-party voters: +72.0%
Republicans: +34.4%
Democrats: +22.9%
Democrats now account for the largest numerical increase: 25,019 additional ballots, followed by Republicans at 21,483.
Registration isn’t a vote choice.
1/ Iowa’s early-voting pace pulled further ahead of 2022.
Today: 265,803 ballots received—up 57,945 since Friday and 33.3% ahead of the comparable 2022 report. Friday’s lead was 24.4%.
94 of 99 counties are ahead.

I'll leave you to this moron, Sara. I'm sure you'll do well but I warn you: they are fucking pathetically stupid.
Any comment on Lahn accepting so much RGA PAC money? It's most of what he has! Have you looked at their top donors? They are trying to buy the election too, but you conveniently dodge that.
They are not Zach's kids. They are Annie's, but they are also Annie's ex-husband's kids. He has rights, too.

I inferred that from your last response, apparently incorrectly. But happy to hear confirmation you are a partisan hack-job cuck. At least you can admit that much. A true independent would certainly understand Lahn’s weaknesses as a candidate. A cuck would not.
Replying to @HerkysTeeth
You are not a true independent. You can lie to yourself all you want. You are the idiot reasonable people have given up on.
Replying to @HerkysTeeth
No I call people who make stupid arguments not based on facts stupid. This is the category you are in.
Lahn didn’t have permission to use children that AREN’T his. Not remotely the same thing as Sand and his family being on board. You are just so mentally deficient.
Replying to @HerkysTeeth
You are stupid why do I care what you are buying? Being independent doesn’t mean supporting your candidate. I wish the GOP gave me a candidate worthy of support. Instead they continue to pander morons like you.
Replying to @HerkysTeeth
No, your specific view is that Sand isn’t already focusing on issues just because he does spend some time on the fact that at minimum Lahn will be distracted at times by the part of his life based in Kansas. Which is a valid issue. But its FAR from the only thing Sand talks about
