Alexander Skobov, a prominent human rights activist imprisoned in Russia for his outspoken criticism of the war and the Putin regime, has stated that he doesn't want his release in exchange for the easing of sanctions against Russia.
He strongly opposed the idea of being included in any potential prisoner exchange that would involve a partial lifting of sanctions against Russia.
The idea of such a deal was previously suggested by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dmitry Muratov.
The 68-year-old dissident, Alexander Skobov, sentenced in March 2025 to 16 years in prison, stated in a letter dated October 4th that he doesn't condemn those who agree to participate in an exchange. However, he himself believes that his imprisonment is a way to influence the situation in favor of Ukraine.
"I am categorically against any deal that would involve any weakening of sanctions until a complete ceasefire. And I won't agree to be a commodity in such a deal," Skobov wrote. His letter was published by opposition dissident Oleg Sofyanik.

🇪🇪🇺🇦 NEW: Estonia has identified more than 60 locomotives that could be transferred to Ukraine as Russia continues targeting the country's railway infrastructure.
According to Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, Russian attacks have destroyed or damaged 340 railway carriages in Ukraine this year.
Ukrainian railway specialists have already visited Estonia to assess the locomotives.
The transfer is not yet finalised, with Estonia awaiting technical assessments and working to secure international funding.
The aim is to keep Ukraine's vital transport network operational despite continued Russian strikes, particularly as winter approaches.

In the first 24 days of October, 4 554 occupiers killed or wounded. Magyar’s Birds put the equivalent of two enemy assault companies into the ground every day.
That’s an average of 190 worms a day, with two out of every three occupiers neutralized on the Donbas front. At this pace, October will be the first month in the brigade’s history with over 5,000 worms neutralized. That’s more than 13 enemy assault battalions — by a single brigade.
A Magyar’s Birds strike drone crew neutralizes an average of 37 occupiers per month.
