I went to this session with a fairly bog standard left wing 'stay and make a noise' argument. I'm still not convinced that's entirely wrong. But I was struck by the number of women ex-trade unionists who spoke about the depths of betrayal, disrespect, and even contempt that they've faced. I think many union leaders are isolated from their members by a kind of crisis of internal democracy - they live in a bubble and they don't have any real conception of the antipathy that is felt towards them both by women members and this who have left. This is really serious. And really bad for the labour movement. So, reflecting.
A discussion about the failure of unions in the face of GC harassment. @DarlingtonUnion's Bethany's talk amazing. She ended with unions have abandoned us to let's rebuild. @RosieDuffield1 smash the unions? Yes. @runthinkwrite distinguish between leadership and role of trade unionists "I don't need an additional HR department that I pay subs to for them to police my views" @JimButcher2 had to leave the union for moral grounds because of their support for harming children. Instinctively we know this. In every organisation there’s compulsory continuing professional development. In education we listened, played the games, quietly checked phones, doodled, shared answers, & escaped as early as possible to get on with the real work, another box ticked.
How did employers get 'trans inclusion' (and DEI) so wrong? Because leadership failed. So... Why did leadership fail? Answers are emerging. Here is corporate strategist Paul Sweeney, who we interviewed for our new 'Working Bites' series on This Is Working, our new online platform. This is how we find our way out of the mess we're in.

Excellent point. As evidence that leadership development courses don’t work, one only has to look at the decline in BBC senior leadership. Courses kept being done. Yet few of the leaders seemed able to think critically/think for themselves.

This clip captures a pattern that has played out in social groups and workplaces over the last decade - including newsrooms. It shows how gender ideology has taken hold. One loud activist holds forth about “kindness” and “inclusion”, as though these justify removing women’s sex-based rights and boundaries. One person nods along. Another tries to “see both sides”. Most look uncomfortable and say nothing. A couple of sensible people challenge the activist, pointing out the clash of rights - and that women have rights too. They’re the ones who get called bigoted. Omar and Rochelle are still inside, unaware of the reaction to their perfectly reasonable comments. When they leave the house and see the reaction, we may see apologies they don't mean. And the lesson for the housemates - and viewers - will be: challenge the activist and risk being branded a bigot. Stay quiet - or signal agreement - and spare yourself. The activist, meanwhile, learns that this approach works. Wasn’t Big Brother meant to hold up a mirror to society and human behaviour? This clip does exactly that.
Hideous transphobia, according to Big Brother viewers. What actually happens? Posh female housemate tells everyone her mum is a “trans ally”. And that the government is ‘obsessed with genitals.’ Male housemate asks, reasonably, what she would do about women who feel uncomfortable sharing intimate spaces with men who identify as women. Another female housemate pipes up that this would make her uncomfortable. Posh female housemate responds by lecturing everyone about kindness, inclusion and “community”. Posh male housemate nods along. Camp Scouse male housemate appears to be trying to work out which side of the argument he is supposed to be on. Gay male housemate doesn’t seem especially bothered. Another male housemate looks like he’s trying not to roll his eyes. And somehow the scandal is that somebody mentioned women might have boundaries.

A very interesting conversation with @Psychgirl211 . She talks about the trans stroop effect; the subject of the 2019 article "pronouns are rohypnol" .
Oof - this one hits hard. If Dr P is right, anyone who affirmed a 'trans' colleague made things worse for them. Horrifying to think that employers forced their staff to do this for YEARS - and many are still doing it. Link to @Psychgirl211's unflinching new interview ⬇️

Trust me when I tell you this podcast which looks at Trans ideology from an HR (yes Human Resources!) perspective is absolutely brilliant and worth your time. @Psychgirl211 @IsntWorkingPod They are talking about office culture but it is impossible not to take some of the info they share and think how directly it applies to the classroom. Dr P takes the conversation to the next level, it’s like a cool glass of water. The question should not be how to accommodate these people experiencing a break with reality, it’s whether they should be accommodated at all.

Best episode yet. @Psychgirl211 puts into words the feelings so many of us have - and explains why, from a evolutionary point if view (survival and reproduction), we are psychologically wired to feel this way.

I enjoyed the discussion of workplace risk: Roid rage we know about but not X sex hormones (e.g. Pilots; police officers etc). And the negative impact on colleagues of being forced to condone the lies in a culture of fear. Brilliant conversation!

Watch it if you dare. This is subversive. And I haven’t stopped thinking about it all day. Dang is Dr P brave. I mean, really brave. This is some stuff NO ONE dares say.

This is so interesting. Affirmation is damage. To all the parents out there affirming because they are terrified of losing their child, resist. Resist with everything you can because you can prevent this. I did.

Trans is not a demand for 'rights' it is the imposition of a lot of 'obligations' on everyone else in society to affirm, participate and in effect 'make real' their delusion that they were 'born in the wrong body' and can change sex There is zero consideration given to the very real consequences that their demands have for women, girls, young people and people who are same sex attracted - Dr P nails the absolute lack of empathy or care for other people's feelings, safety and their human rights The very real impact on others is dismissed, even derrided - they refuse to listen ir discuss, questions and the mildest opposition is shut down with abuse and threats - only unquestioning capitulation to all and any demand is permitted

It is cruel to affirm a person’s delusion. The notion that it is “kind” is completely false.
