Interesting column in The Independent from former Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger, who appears outraged that Ofcom isn't doing more to regulate GB News. He suggests that the law shouldn't permit a “right-wing broadcaster”. But why is he so concerned about alleged right-wing bias at GB News, rather than allegations of left-wing bias at the BBC or Sky News? And what about The Guardian, which Rusbridger himself has acknowledged is left of centre? And isn't there a certain irony in making this argument in The Independent - a newspaper that openly embraces 'progressive' values and has itself faced criticism for, erm, not being particularly 'independent'? Of course, newspapers aren't subject to the same impartiality rules as broadcasters. But having a political perspective isn't automatically the same as breaching impartiality rules. And if you're concerned about ideological bias in journalism, shouldn't you be equally curious about it wherever it occurs? Read below 👇

Interesting row developing between GB News and Ofcom. GB News is accusing the media regulator of suppressing its own research showing that the channel's viewers rate it more highly for trustworthiness than BBC viewers rate the BBC. Ofcom says the omission was due to methodological changes, while delayed publication of the underlying data was an administrative error. But here's the interesting bit. The Government is considering proposals to give prominence to supposedly 'trusted' news providers on social media. If Ofcom is going to help shape that debate, surely transparency and consistency in how it presents its own research are essential. Read below 👇
GB News has launched an attack on Ofcom amid a deepening row over data showing how trusted the channel is by its viewers. 🔗: telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

Thank you, Beth, single handedly doing more to bring down your broken “trans” ideology than I could ever imagine, across two continents.
Oh what a surprise ... Dr Beth Upton - the male doctor at the centre of nurse Sandie Peggie’s tribunal case over using a female changing room at NHS Fife - isn't exactly keeping a low profile after his move to Australia. The Scottish Mail on Sunday reports that Upton - now known as Lis - reportedly became involved in an incident at Port Macquarie Base Hospital ... After a female patient declined treatment from him and requested a female doctor. Link below 👇

Bills don't get worse in daylight, they get worse when nobody's watching. So we're watching. The Health Bill goes to Lords Committee from 28 October. MPs voted down single-sex wards 106 to 302. The peers are next. We're also tracking the Draft Conversion Practices Bill and the school misogyny plan, so you don't have to. Live trackers 👇 protectandteach.org/publicat…

This is hardly 'Orwellian'. Applying BBC rules on political and promotional messaging to Pride symbols is perfectly reasonable.

Scope has publicly apologised to our director, journalist @jan_murray after cancelling her choir’s London Marathon performance over her lawful gender-critical views. The consequences of speaking openly can extend beyond a journalist’s work and affect others around them. That should concern every newsroom. This is an important case for free speech and deserves widespread mainstream media coverage. Will mainstream outlets report this openly - or will we see the familiar caution around reporting on stories involving gender-critical beliefs?
Brilliant news for free speech - and for women. 🎉 Scope has publicly apologised for cancelling my choir’s London Marathon performance over my gender-critical views, acknowledging its decision was wrong. Our legal dispute is now resolved. No apology can undo the upset caused, but I hope this gives more women confidence to speak up - and makes others think twice before cancelling people for speaking about biological reality. I tried to resolve this privately before going public or consulting lawyers. The brilliant @MForstater helped me draft a letter to Scope ahead of the marathon, hoping we could clear things up. Unfortunately, Scope stood by its decision at that stage. I’m so grateful to the @SpeechUnion, my solicitors Sharpe Pritchard, the fellow singers who stood beside me and members of @womensrightsnet for their support. Sadly, I fear some singers may feel too nervous to return to the choir. But I hope other women will feel emboldened by this news. Women should be able to speak about biological sex, their sex-based rights and the language used to describe their bodies - without fear of cancellation or other negative consequences. Full apology statement and Telegraph article below 👇

Super from @TwisterFilm, and so true. Right from the start, the BBC ignored @jk_rowling’s first intensely newsworthy essay, until Daniel Radcliffe was rude about it. It’s a shambles, and fully the BBC’s fault, that she couldn’t trust the BBC enough to contribute to its doco.

Male nurse nominated for women’s healthcare awards. Guess who is behind the awards? The @NursingTimes - which appears to have long forgotten what a woman is. So much so, when this man was nominated for an award under his male birth name name - Jaypee - his nomination was reported using female pronouns 🤡
🚨 BREAKING: A male NHS nurse says he’s received four nominations for awards that celebrate women working in healthcare - including ‘Women’s Champion of the Year’. Jia Palis Amada said being “embraced as a woman” was already an award in itself. The awards are organised by emap - in association with Nursing Times. Helen Joyce of Sex Matters called the nominations “deeply insulting” to women. My latest for [Un]Captured. Link below 👇

Tough times for BBC employees right now. 😢 Sadly, we fear the departments and programmes most deserving of cuts will be spared - and the ideological capture of the corporation will continue.

She’s absolutely right of course …
J.K. Rowling has published a new essay defending her views on the trans community and calling out trans activism in the 21st century for being "elitist." "My views haven't changed... what to me represents no change at all in my political or ideological outlook has, in recent years, seen me and women like me subject not only to criticism but also to death threats. This is because we oppose the current, dominant strain of trans activism, which holds that a man who declares himself a woman is, literally, a woman, and is therefore entitled to be treated as a woman in all contexts..." variety.com/2026/tv/global/j…

Trade Unions no longer appear to support women. Isn’t this something the mainstream media should be covering?
Yet another union betraying women. The British Medical Association (BMA), the doctors’ trade union, has published a lengthy statement opposing the NHS’s new single-sex guidance. It repeatedly raises concerns about trans people’s privacy, dignity and safety. But where is the recognition of women’s need for those same protections? Women get a brief mention - but only to suggest that those who don’t look feminine enough may be challenged when using single-sex spaces. Nothing about why female patients and staff need those spaces in the first place. Link to full statement below 👇
