The media have done little other than to bow and bend the knee to Trump. They've avoided addressing the big picture issues. They've sanitized him. They don't deserve public support. Media have to go out and earn it. Where are the Pablo Torre's among mainstream media?
A few thoughts this morning on the situation at the White House. I'm sure plenty of people don't see the big deal in denying a few outlets access to the grounds. But it is a big deal. * Press freedom is a bedrock principle. * Less journalism = more opportunities for corruption. * Banning reporters has a chilling effect for those reporters not banned * There is nothing to indicate Trump will stop with these three. * Less appreciated: adversarial press helps presidents. We should welcome checks and transparency. It's good governance. I'm disheartened by the absence of real meaningful public pushback as these outlets have their credentials pulled this morning. There should be collective action. The WHCA should be explaining more openly what they're doing. After all, this is an institution founded on open publication of information

Never forget the press thought Trump was good for business and enabled him for a decade. They made the bed they’re lying in

I must be a dinosaur because I remember when Ford lost a Senate race because Republicans insinuated he was going to sleep with all the white women.
Ford: I think I'm a dinosaur because… there's nothing wrong with him talking about the ballroom but there's no need to bring up that young lady's name

Yikes! Both of Trump's hands are discolored today and one of them appears bruised as well (Anna Moneymaker/Getty)

So much winning
It's the most expensive Friday to fill up since summer, 2022, with the national average price of gasoline at $4.42/gal, and we'll head a bit higher before easing this weekend. Diesel keeps climbing as well, up to $5.56/gal, 25 cents below its all-time high.

I’m guessing people aren’t enjoying the gas prices

Trump spent six years handing Iran the rope. Now he’s annoyed they’ve tied a knot with it. In 2018, he tore up the Iran nuclear deal, called it the worst agreement in history, and walked away convinced maximum pressure would bring Tehran to its knees. It didn’t. Iran responded by enriching uranium at a pace the original deal had specifically prevented, stockpiling enough material to alarm everyone who understood what stockpiles lead to. Now Trump is in a war, partly of his own making, demanding Iran surrender the atomic capability it only developed because he gave them the incentive to develop it. This is roughly equivalent to kicking over someone’s beehive, getting stung repeatedly for six years, and then demanding a legally binding agreement that the bees stop existing. The Obama deal was imperfect. Most deals are. But it had inspectors, verification mechanisms, and a functioning lid on enrichment. Trump had a press conference and a signed withdrawal letter. Iran had centrifuges. The negotiations in Islamabad this weekend are therefore haunted by a very specific ghost: the agreement that could have made all of this unnecessary, killed by the man now demanding a better one.

Republicans never complain about Arkansas 4-0 map or Oklahoma’s 5-0 map 🤔

Remember when Republicans drew Virginia's Congressional map so Black people were packed into one district and said we should be grateful they gave our community this district. NOW they can have one district and see how much they love it.

This is going to be a great time for nursing home workers
Living in a nursing home shouldn’t mean giving up everyday freedoms. I just signed a bill allowing seniors living in nursing homes to consume alcohol - so that everyone can enjoy happy hour!

A win for freedom loving people worldwide
IT'S OV-AH! Viktor Orban and his Fidesz party will lose power in today's Hungarian election. The only question now is whether Peter Magyar's Tisza Party will get the 133 seats it needs to change the constitution. I'd bet it will, but it might be close.
