📚 In our latest Book Review, Lea Augenstein offers us a look at recent works from Marcia Morgan, @JSouter2, & Ashwini Vasanthakumar, arguing that the 3 challenge coloniality about agency in migration studies well- but could go further. Read here ⤵️

One day until UCU members at @UniversityLeeds start *indefinite strike action* caused by senior management's mishandling of the dispute over pay, casualisation, workloads and equal pay. The vice chancellor could solve this at any time but is inexplicably choosing not to. 1️⃣⏰🚨🪧

Please share & sign our petition asking University of Leeds to rescind their threat of further pay deductions at a rate of 100% pay for staff who do not deliver teaching missed on strike days i.e. additional deductions beyond strike deductions shorturl.at/bsLM3 #UCUstrike

(5/6) Next is @JSouter2's 'Asylum as reparation' (@Palgrave). Souter delivers a thoughtful and hopeful rethink for anyone disillusioned with the quagmire of states' obligations to refugees. @Se_Clark1's review here: doi.org/10.1093/ia/iiac295

New in @PRQjournal: Even if states are permitted to sell citizenship, private markets for citizenship cannot be legitimately established. And this, I argue, tells us something important about the state's supposed right to exclude and its limits. (1/n)

Low pay forcing education staff to use food banks is inexcusable & an indictment on the sector
One college recommending food banks calls itself a “responsible employer..doing everything we can to assist”
Everything other than paying staff properly

In all @ucu actions recently, without doubt the most disheartening element has been the deliberately divisive tactics of HE leadership to pit students against staff. But here students are demonstrating that they independently recognise that we are all on the same side 🙏🏾💪🏾✊🏾👏🏾

The compassion for Ukrainian refugees is heart warming. This is how it should be done for all refugees. Unfortunately, it isn't. In other places, people fleeing are beaten after making it over one of Europe's barbed wire fences. Great thread by @daniel_howden
