Well, it's official — I'm retiring at the end of March. Time really flies, especially in this industry! It's safe to say much of my adult life has been spent thinking about #ThinkPad. After thirty-six years, it's tough to say goodbye to @Lenovo, and the ThinkPad and #ThinkBook teams... but it's time for me to take a step back and make some room for the next era of brilliant thinkers to take up the torch. I can think of no better person to step into my role than Tom Butler! I'm working on building a new overlanding rig, planning my adventures, but I'll never be far from a Lenovo Think product (or three). One thing this article doesn't mention is that we've also expanded our tactile cues on the keyboard to improve accessibility for visually impaired users. Product development isn't a frictionless road. There's always trial and error, pains and angst — and when our customers have painful experiences, we feel that pain keenly, too. But the destination is always worth the journey. Here's an example (in a bit of a longer post): Firstly, you have to know: if @Lenovo ever debated removing the TrackPoint from our core lines, we have customers who have specific skills they wouldn’t hesitate to deploy to make us reconsider 😁. We love that kind of love and loyalty! So when it comes to changing our touchpads — most recently going full haptic — we had to look for technology that would accurately simulate the touchpad experience both for TrackPoint users and full-touchpad users. Our haptic touchpads allow us to solve for both customer use cases with finely-tuned software. This kind of touchpad can even learn a little more about your personal use to interpret your intent, adapting for where you rest your fingers or press harder or softer, whether your palms and fingers are longer or shorter (changing your particular magic ratio), or perhaps even if you have hand-based accessibility differences. There’s a lot that goes into every aspect of a device — you don’t just drop a new panel into the space below a keyboard and hope it works out. We worked with @senselinc to develop these new touchpads. When we have specialist researchers or customers test new keyboards or touchpads like this, we’re looking for a certain reaction: "Wow, that feels good." We’re all constantly being pushed to Get Things Done. Most often, this looks like accomplishing tasks, delivering tangible things that can be seen, used, profited from. But we tend to undervalue the period of time in which it doesn’t look like we’re doing anything — the time when our minds are the most active, rather than our hands. As we head towards the end of one year and the start of another one, when many take a longer break, remember to give yourself permission, space and time to think. #Thinking #Productivity

I made the first mockup of a foldable probably 10 years ago. It was cardboard, designed to be carried around to see how the size would work, so I could act like I was using it. At the time, we knew there was no way to make it real. Now look where we are. #ThinkPadThursday
