TRAFFIC ADVISORY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE: 26 OCTOBER 2026 | 04h40 URGENT ROAD CLOSURES ON N12 FREEWAY, K43, AND ABUBAKAR ASVAT DRIVE DUE TO PROTEST ACTION IN LENASIA / NANA’S FARM The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) strongly advises all motorists and road users of severe traffic disruptions and ongoing road closures caused by intense protest action that flared up at Nana’s Farm in Lenasia. N12 Freeway: Closed completely in both directions between K43 (Klipspruit Valley Road) and Abubakar Asvat Drive. K43 (Klipspruit Valley Road): Blocked/restricted access near the N12 interchange. Abubakar Asvat Drive: Closed to incoming and outgoing traffic. JMPD officers are on site to control traffic and manage the disturbance. The situation remains highly tense. Motorists are strictly urged to stay clear of the area for their safety. A crime intelligence-driven operation has led to the arrest of 17x male suspects & the recovery of firearms, ammunition & explosives in the Cleveland & Jeppe SAPS areas. #JMPD K9 & TRU officers working alongside the JHB Flying Squad officers & various security agencies conducted the operation across Wychwood, Jumpers Informal Settlement & Karsene Informal Settlement. At Wychwood & Main Reef Road four male suspects were found in possession of a rifle & a magazine. The suspects were arrested & detained at Cleveland SAPS for the possession of an unlicensed firearm. At Jumpers Informal Settlement officers searched five identified addresses, recovering firearms, ammunition & explosives. 10x suspects were arrested & detained at Cleveland SAPS. The officers proceeded to Karsene Informal Settlement where the search of a shack led to the arrest of 3x male suspects found in possession of two unlicensed firearms & ammunition. #JMPD TRU officers arrested 2x suspects following an intelligence-driven operation targeting the sale of illicit cigarettes in Cosmo City. The suspects also led the officers to a property in Wilgeheuwel, where approximately R150,000 worth of illicit cigarettes were discovered in a garage. The suspects allegedly admitted to illegally obtaining the cigarettes from Mozambique for resale in Johannesburg. Both suspects were arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes in terms of the Counterfeit Goods Act & possession of suspected stolen property. A man found holding a 9mm firearm told officers that the suspect had allegedly attempted to shoot him, resulting in a struggle over the firearm. The suspect tried to flee but was apprehended by the community before being rescued by the victim. 3x male suspects were arrested for tampering with municipal infrastructure at the Golden Highway & Wimbledon Road intersection in Lenasia. The arrests followed a complaint of cable theft received by #JMPD #RegionG operations officers who responded alongside Empriop Security & Deep South Security officers. #JMPD TRU officers spotted a grey Audi entering Ormonde Shopping Centre & immediately exiting with 3x male occupants. The vehicle raised suspicion as it did not have a front number plate. The officers followed the vehicle & attempted to stop it but the driver failed to comply resulting in a chase. Upon checking the registration number displayed on the vehicle, the officers discovered that it was registered to a Renault. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 2x iPhones wrapped in foil which the suspects could not account for.
