The biggest bullshit move by DHS in its history. So everyone on a O1 or H1B visa would have to stop working legally in the US, go back to their country and wait for years of backlog? This includes top scientists in our universities, founders of billion dollar companies (at least 3 just in our portfolio would be affected by the way). And if we look at individual countries it becomes even more bs. Indians would have to wait decades. Russians don’t have anywhere to go (there is no US embassy in Russia, hello?). This is the worst imaginable way to disrupt important work for the country and pretend you’re fighting some loophole.
An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

Ok I resisted weighing in to the H-1B visa debate but I can't help myself because the current framing IS SO DUMB and I NEED TO CORRECT THINGS. People are debating whether we should allow highly skilled workers into the U.S. or prioritize hiring American workers only. But this misses a critical point (which is very obvious to anyone who runs a business): if American companies can’t bring the talent they need into the country, they’ll simply hire or contract that talent offshore. In an increasingly global economy, restricting visas doesn’t protect American jobs—it just pushes innovation and opportunities outside our borders. So duh, of course we should allow highly skilled, pro-American values folks to come into the country if companies want to sponsor them. This is exactly how we create more value inside the country and ultimately *more* American jobs.

The Internet is what it is -- a public infrastructure with open standards -- because of AI Gore. Thank you @algore ! He was at the origin of the legislation that opened what was then Arpanet to the public, based on TCP/IP, DNS, and other open standards. The lobbying pressure for proprietary approaches was from giant telecom companies, such as AT&T. When Al Gore and Bill Clinton held hearings about the "information superhighway", in 1993,the CEO of AT&T said "leave it to us". Al Gore said "no!" If AT&T had regulatorily captured the information superhighway, it would have been based on ATM, ISDN, metered access, and probably would have provided little content neutrality (Big Telecom never liked content neutrality). It took until 1996 for AT&T to embrace the internet with its WorldNet ISP product, one of the first to offer unmetered, unlimited access.
'Imagine if the internet itself had been invented by a Silicon Valley company.' What would happen? Imagine this would happen for #ai. Hence #bittensor $tao bittensor.com/about

ChatGPT can write stories and then tell DALLE-2 prompts to illustrate them. I asked it to write a children's story about "a robot that wanted to be a human." Here's the story it came up with: (0/11)

There's a fairly annoying fashion on this website, especially on the left, to never want to appear too optimistic even when the situation warrants it. It is unambiguously good news that election deniers are mostly losing and also mostly conceding.
I am reluctant to be too optimistic but this seems like a genuinely good sign. We all benefit if election denial is proven to be an electoral loser and is thrown on the dust heap of history.

I think people haven’t fully processed what 5% interest rates will mean for the $31 trillion debt. It’s a simple math equation but it’s sort of like adding a second Defense Department worth of expenses to the budget except you get nothing in return.

AI research is converging on a major finding: language models are a great substrate for all AI applications. This feels like a HUGE deal. Some examples:
