The Oxford Economics Global Cities Index 2026 scored 1,000 cities on air quality, emissions intensity, natural-disaster risk and climate anomalies. Two regions deserve a special shout-out.🇧🇷 Brazil places nine cities in the global top 30, more than any other country. Fortaleza is #2 in the world (96.9), followed by Aracaju (#5), Teresina, Recife, Natal, João Pessoa, Maceió, Salvador, and Belém, the city that hosted COP30.🇳🇴🇸🇪🇩🇰 The Nordics: Bergen #3 (96.4), Stockholm #7 (91.1), Malmö #12 (90.1) and Copenhagen #14 (89.7). Decades of clean power, district heating, public transport and people-first planning are paying off.Honolulu tops the list with a perfect 100. At the other end, all 30 lowest-ranked cities are in Asia, 23 of them in China. Several, like Datong, Huainan, Pingdingshan and Fushun, are historic coal cities. A reminder that phasing out coal and cutting coal mine methane is also about clean air for millions of people.Rankings never tell the whole story.
