Five things Africans should strive to achieve by 2050
1. Medical sovereignty
2. Water sovereignty
3. Food sovereignty
4. Land sovereignty
5. Labour sovereignty
Having complete control & authority over these five aspects of life is important to reclaiming their human condition.

Good morning Mr President, @Hakainde,
Your budget is big on policy and aspirations while the fiscal tightening is pulling in an entirely different direction.
You are running out of ideas for broadening the tax base because you and your minister of finance are far too old school to understand modern finances.
On taxes for example, it isn't just a question of picking which tax will generate how much revenue, you ought to be looking at who will be affected the most by the tax.
You are asking Zambians to participate in the Grow Zambia agenda on one hand but double the cash grab from them - people who already have limited savings and are unable to access affordable finance.
As an example:
Between Levy on Mobile money & VAT, which of the two taxes is more Grow Zambia supportive?
Yes, you guessed it. VAT, under the current Zambian economy structure is primarily import based with most household items exempt.
Yet you go ahead to double the former while marginally adjusting the latter.
Your budget along with your entire governance approach says to Zambians, "stay this one out", while gleefully opening the door widely to foreigners.
VAT + CAPITAL MARKETS == GREATER PUBLIC EXPOSURE TO COPPER (essentially a synthetic windfall tax).
Muleishiba utuntu yama.
Bro doubled down and even said people should taste the sea turtle before they judge. Even wild Animals are cooked in 🇳🇬😭😭
Why are we allowing a foreigner to decide what happens to something in Nigeria? A Nigerian was trying to sell it, someone was willing to buy it, and the next thing, a foreigner steps in, pays for it and decides it should be returned to the river.
What exactly is the difference between a sea turtle and the chicken, fish and other animals we kill and eat every day? If we are going to have conversations about protecting wildlife, let it be based on clear laws and conservation policies, not selective outrage.
We cannot keep acting like Nigerians need foreign approval before deciding what happens in their own country.
Take it or leave it.

You know what else would protect that young rural girl's right to clean water? Including justiciable (claimable) economic and social rights in our Constitution.
CSOs have been calling for those rights to be enshrined in our Bill of Rights for decades. This would allow citizens the right to go to court to hold successive governments to account for failure to provide basic needs like clean drinking water, good healthcare, and good education.
My bet is if you asked that girl in rural Bwengwa to choose between that and the removal of term limits the choice would be easily made.

Good morning President Hakainde Hichilema (@HHichilema),
I thought it perhaps the right time to reflect on your comments just 5 years ago, immediately after you assumed office as President of the Republic of Zambia.
Appearing on a panel discussing democracy, governance and regional issues in Zambia and Africa at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C on 23 September 2021, you told the world that, "This appetite or desire to say that this one is special and they must stay in office forever breeds autocratic behaviour..."
You clearly believed that to be true.
If that was true 5 years ago, what has changed since which would persuade you to reflect on the same in a totally different way?
You articulated the governance issues in Zambia and Africa has partly to do with leaders with an appetite to extend their stay in power.
The Zambian people would like you to speak to those, particularly members of your party, agitating for the removal of the Presidential Term limit to remind them that they are promoting bad governance and autocratic behaviour.
As prophesied…

According to Hichilema, it is wrong to limit mayors and council chairpersons to two five year terms. The constitution should therefore be amended, as he is proposing to do in Bill 7, to remove such limits so that the “good” leaders can continue standing for elective public office for as long as they want, as is the case with MPs and councillors.
Now, if what is wrong is term limits, this logic can be extended to the presidential term, which like the office of mayor and council chairperson, has a two term limit. In the video clip and using the examples of the term limits for mayors and council chairs, Hichilema is urging support for removal of two-five year term limits from Zambia’s constitution so that “good” leaders “can continue if the people want you”.
In effect, he is signalling what he might do beyond 2026 if he wins a second term. A better approach, one that creates room for regular renewal of leadership, would be to introduce term limits for MPs and Councillors so that there is consistency.

This conversation about a third term for the President is dangerous, guys. We must be very careful not to play around with our laws simply because we like where we are with certain individuals in positions of power.
Two terms maximum, then we move on. African leaders must learn this lesson quickly instead of trying to bend the rules in the name of love.
Whether the young people in Parliament are speaking of their own accord or pushing a hidden agenda fed to them by those in higher places, let’s pause and think.
When we have a great leader, it may seem like a good idea to create provisions that allow them to serve beyond the two-term limit. But that same provision could plunge our society into darkness when a tyrant or someone with evil intentions gets hold of that very power. Let’s be careful. Let’s not get carried away.
Young people, focus on the real issues confronting Zambian youth. We have young people falling into crime, getting trapped in cycles of sex, drugs and alcohol, human trafficking and prostitution. We have teenage pregnancies, sexual and gender-based violence, and countless other issues that demand urgent intervention from leaders who understand the realities of today’s generation. Let’s not forget cybercrime and its impact on young people.
When you enter the House of Lawmakers, don’t behave as though these issues are less important than creating provisions that could extend your favourite politician’s stay in power beyond the maximum two-term limit.
It raises serious questions about where your loyalties lie. Is it with the people who put you in those positions, or with ordinary Zambians across all ten provinces?
Cut this third-term talk now!
Prophets are never celebrated at home.

Well, it's now official. The Zambia that we knew is gone. We lost it today. To suicide. The coming era will be a long dark road. You may not understand now, but one day, you will. I'm sorry my efforts were not enough to stop it, but I tried. I have nothing left to give. Goodbye🇿🇲

They are telling us the removal of term limits will not affect our rights to elect a leader of our choice. So, if at any point we are stuck with a bad leader, we can easily vote him/ her out.
What advocates for this narrative are forgetting is that elections are not easy to win. In most cases, they have very little to do with how brilliant one is.
HH, considering how smart he spoke during his time in opposition and how he seemed to be a better alternative, he lost elections 5 times, surely that should tell you something.
Don’t come here telling me that one day, we will be able to get rid of an “Idi Amin” kind of leader in 5 years, through the ballot.
You people joke a lot. It’s all rosy now, one day it won’t be, the term limit is a safeguard we should all be trying to protect. We aren’t short of manpower in this country.
What we should be discussing at this point, noting that this “could be” HH’s last term is the establishment of good systems that will allow for continuity of good government projects and strict implementation of our national development goals.
The UPND should have been grooming a suitable successor as we speak.
Government is not a sole proprietorship where one man is expected to carry the country’s vision.
Even the people of Mporokoso will agree with me on this one, I am certain. 😂
Even if Britain and other colonisers paid reparations, just like aid, no ordinary African will ever see a cent. It’s a waste of time for everyone

Same applies to Africans. We are the architects of our own suffering.

When the Ancient Romans distinguished themselves from their European neighbours (Gauls, Franks, etc.), did it mean the Romans were a different race from White Europeans? They had very nasty things to say about them too.
That's the logic you're employing right now.
You people seem to ignore a little concept called ETHNIC GROUPS whenever it comes to Kemet (Ancient Egypt)!
Ancient Egyptians depicting themselves differently from other African DOES NOT make them any less African.
Also, you'd be hard-pressed to find the Ancient Egyptians saying anything negative about other African ethnic groups at the time, unlike how the Romans spoke about other Europeans.
Anyways, gonna use this tweet as an excuse to post this educational video.

@grok Why does this account ignore the fact that the ancient Egyptians depicted themselves as different from Black African populations further south?
I lived here in 2017 between October and December.
This is Pipeline Estate, Nairobi.
I had become so broke that I couldn't live in Nyayo Estate, where I had rented a 2-bedroom house, Gate B.
Baba had just lost an election, and on 26th October, Uhuru was re-elected in a sham "birthday party election."
I had put all my hopes and dreams in Baba's victory because I knew I was going to be appointed to a plum job in government.
But after Baba lost, everybody left. Baba himself was abandoned by people close to him. He was so lonely and depressed.
Only Saitabao Ole Kanchori took the role of giving Baba company. The rest took off. They crawled back when Baba had a handshake with Jameson.
Living here in Pipeline gave me a reality check. I had never seen such an indignified ecosystem.
My Ka-small cubicle was on the 7th floor. There is no lift. The eight tenants on that floor shared a toilet and a bathroom tucked at the corner of the floor's extreme corridor.
If you get to your house in the evening and forget to buy a matchbox, you'd rather drink a mug of water, accept the situation and sleep till the next morning.
If you walk leisurely and casually along the narrow, wet, muddy footpaths beside the sewer rivulets, a random tenant will pour kitchen effluent on your head, and that ruins the day for you.
This is an experience I will never forget.
In December, I relocated to my village and started life afresh.
I vowed never again would I live that life.
I fixed my life; I was obese, and I lost weight, regained my health, fortified my mental frame and became the best version of myself.
I took my experiences and successes and turned them into lessons for helping others out of their pain.
There are Kenyans living in squalor. They smile, but inside them is a whole funeral.
Unless you walk in their shoes, you will never understand their experiences.
You will mock them, call them names, but the people living in these places deserve better lives.
Lessons I learnt:
• Politics will never change your life. It is you who can change yourself.
• Politicians are buddies; it is you and me who insult each other.
• There is no dignity in poverty. Every Kenyan deserve a good house, good healthcare and an equitable share of national resources.
• You have massive potential. You can become the best version of yourself. Don't doubt yourself.

True.
Acted purely on the statement from Statehouse and before seeing the actual proposed ministries.
I don't think anyone could have thought that the exercise behind the statement from Statehouse would be to increase the cost of running government by multiple folds.
