I'm 52 years old. I have terminal Stage IV esophageal cancer. And my life has become something I never could have imagined. I have metastatic adenocarcinoma with signet-ring features. It's spread to my liver, lymph nodes, stomach and peritoneum. The surgery that was supposed to potentially save my life was aborted when they discovered it had already spread. I've been through chemotherapy. I've had a stent shoved down my esophagus just to help me swallow. I've lived with a feeding tube. I've had to rethink something most people never give a second thought to: eating. A cheeseburger. Pizza. A normal meal with my family. Things that used to be completely ordinary have become things I miss. Every meal is a calculation. Calories. Protein. What can I swallow? What will hurt? What will stay down? How much can my stomach tolerate? I deal with nausea, abdominal pain, strange sensations throughout my torso, swallowing difficulties, and the constant uncertainty of what is happening inside my body. I monitor blood markers. I read CT scans. I research clinical trials. I look at experimental treatments and scientific papers, trying to find something, anything, that might give me more time. And there's a particularly cruel part of terminal cancer that people don't always understand: You can look relatively healthy. You can walk every day. You can laugh, read, have conversations, research things, and make plans. Meanwhile, you know there's an incurable disease growing inside you. You become acutely aware that the future everyone else takes for granted is no longer guaranteed to you. I have a wife. I have children. I have things I still want to experience, conversations I still want to have, and memories I still want to make. I've even started leaving little handwritten messages around the house for my wife to find someday. Things I want her to know when I'm no longer here to tell her. I'm not writing this because I want anyone's pity. I'm writing it because terminal cancer is so much more than a diagnosis or a statistic. It's an entirely different existence. It's fighting for your life while simultaneously trying to figure out how to keep living it. I don't know how much time I have. Neither does anyone else. But I'm still here. Still walking. Still researching. Still looking for treatments. Still trying to eat. Still making plans. And I'm not done fighting. If you're healthy, don't take the ordinary things for granted. You have no idea how extraordinary they are until they become difficult or impossible.

You know, if I was going to write an article trying to encourage fury towards the "left-wing press" for featuring pieces by Russell Brand in 2013, I probably would not publish it in the extremely right-wing Spectator, which also featured Russel Brand in 2013.

If you can survive X as a rape victim, you can survive anything. Much love to my fellow warriors. Look after yourselves. ❤️❤️❤️

Men, you can stop telling rape jokes now. And if it’s your mates telling the jokes, you can tell them it’s not funny, and why.
There is no "correct" way for Lily Allen to respond here and they know it. Laugh along with it and validate them, don't laugh and you're an uptight woman who doesn't get it's a "joke"

In light of Russell Brand's conviction, we need to ask an uncomfortable question: Why do so few women report rape? • 80,829 criminal cases stuck in the Crown Court backlog. • 16,089 outstanding sexual offence cases. • 26% increase in outstanding rape cases in just one year. • 438 days — median police investigation time for rape cases resulting in a charge. • 365 days — median time from charge to completion for adult rape cases. • 499 days — average wait for an adult rape trial where the defendant isn't remanded in custody. • 1 in 3 rape trials postponed at least once in 2024, compared with around 1 in 10 in 2015. And what happens to the victims? • 85.3% of victims of rape or assault by penetration did NOT report the most recent incident to police. • 38.5% of non-reporting victims who told someone believed the police couldn't help. • 35.3% cited embarrassment. • 30.5% expected humiliation. • 24.4% feared police wouldn't believe them. • Around 55% of victims in the ONS reporting analysis were assaulted by a partner or former partner. And what happens when they do report? • Only around 8% of adult rape investigations result in a charge. • 69% of adult rape complainants in a London study withdrew before a charging decision. • 71,540 rapes recorded by police in 2024/25. • Just 2,623 rape convictions recorded that year (not necessarily relating to the same offences). And how did we get here? • Courts and tribunals spending cut 23.3% in real terms between 2010/11 and 2017/18. • 31% fewer criminal legal aid solicitors between 2014/15 and 2023/24. • Crown Court backlog more than doubled, from 38,341 cases in December 2019 to 80,829 in June 2026. Successive Conservative-led governments cut funding and capacity from the justice system. Labour inherited the consequences, but now has responsibility for fixing them. And behind every statistic is a human being. Someone who may have spent years trying to find the courage to speak up, only to face an investigation lasting months, a trial years away, the prospect of being cross-examined, and the possibility of having to relive everything again if that trial is postponed. Not reporting rape doesn't mean it didn't happen. Withdrawing a complaint doesn't mean an allegation was false. We keep asking why so few women come forward. Perhaps we should be asking why we've created a system in which coming forward can mean years of uncertainty, humiliation and trauma, with so little prospect of justice. And how many perpetrators have been able to continue abusing others because victims had every reason to believe the system would fail them? Sources: ONS, Ministry of Justice, Home Office, Rape Crisis England & Wales, Institute for Government and London's Victims' Commissioner. Statistics cover different populations and reporting periods.

On Russell Brand, @thetimes challenges the BBC and others over the "misogynistic culture in which Brand revelled", also naming the New Statesman and Guardian. But not @NewsUK sister title @TheSun , which celebrated Brand and awarded him "shagger of the year" for three years running.

There is very strong public support for banning pornography aka sexual abuse material showing someone who appears or is pretending to be a child under 16 years old (88% support), strangulation and suffocation (78% support), and apparent or pretend incest (77% support). There’s no safe way to strangle someone, and normalising this has had terrible and fatal consequences for women and girls. Strangulation is never safe. Unconsciousness can hit in under 10 seconds, even with less force than opening a can of coke. Death or irreversible brain damage or stroke can follow rapidly. That's why pornography involving strangulation has been illegal. The foul, defensive replies from some men this week insisting it’s “just a kink” , "she asked for it" or that it is harmless well done properly only underscore why the change in the law was needed. It will save lives, and stop normalising child sexual abuse and incest. If you want to know more about how porn industry rewires our brains, normalises sexual violence and boundary violations, and even shapes new protest movements, we recommend you read Pornocracy by Jo Bartosch and Robert Jessel. @WomensRightsNet @norwich_s teapawt.net/YouGov/status/21182815…
Tomorrow, 3 categories of pornography will become illegal under the Crime and Policing Act 2026. Our new poll shows the public support the banning of each type -Porn depicting someone who appears or is pretending to be under 16: 88% support -Porn depicting strangulation/suffocation: 78% -Porn depicting apparent incest or pretend incest: 77%

"That person/organisation I don't like uses guilt by association so I'm going to start yapping on about a high profile rape case to start start a pile on against them and make myself feel smug." is an odd way to behave if you care about the trauma suffered by rape victims 🤷🏻‍♀️-

Well in 2020, polling found that a full third of men under 40 had "choked" their partner - and 57% of them said it was porn that influenced them to do it. Meanwhile polling of women indicated that 2 million women under 40 had been choked (strangled) in unbidden acts of violence in (hitherto) consensual sex. wecantconsenttothis.uk/i-tho…

It's already against the law to make, publish and distribute strangulation porn (Inc online) here. But none of these laws have been enforced against sites. The latest ban puts duties on OfCom to enforce. OfCom have previously decided that there isn't good evidence on watching strangulation porn and real life strangling. theotherhalf.uk/we-cant-keep…

Twenty years ago, the mum of murdered Brit Jane Longhurst won a ban on online strangulation 'porn'. But the law was never used against the sites. HUGE public support for a new Labour govt to make good on the promise they made. The cost of inaction has been to push strangling onto generations of young women, by men who have lost their inhibition against grabbing women by the throat, a killing-act regardless of its rebranding as "breath play" or choking.

The phrase “access to sex” makes me want to smash my head against the wall.
Men who have regular sex and are married (aged 20-55) are almost four times more likely to be “very happy” than their peers who are unmarried with little or no access to sex, according to data from the General Social Survey.
