The MW literature is no different than any other controversial subject in empirical social science. You know what the paper says based on the author/s. There is (somehow) always a small methodological difference that can reverse results -- and was not reported by the others.

If a doctor is going to give me a rigid logic tree, can I not just have the diagram and diagnose myself? That seems much easier for all involved
We know our own brains are terrible at doing EV math on low probability high consequence shit so we just make rules. >Treat a gun like it’s always loaded > Just call the uber > Pilots use non-negotiable checklists >Doctors use a logic tree that always over-tests

A friend of mine who is a high level professional and long time volunteer fire fighter tells me he believes that the fire unions are trying to squeeze out volunteers by continually increasing training requirements to make it too onerous for volunteers to stay in.

It seems we may need to cut the cables
Just got quoted $2,400 to paint a 23 by 13 foot living room. The 4 gallons of paint it takes to do the job costs about $110 at Home Depot, or around $160 if you want Sherwin Williams. This is not a particularly skilled job. You went to trade school, not medical school. You own a brush and a roller. Stop ripping people off, contractors.

I can’t prove it but this seems to be upstream of many Euro/Latam socioeconomic struggles. Anyways to recap, Hunters point is both ignorant and also does not get redeemed if the facts were his way and arguments like his are a root cause of a lot of malaise. /end

PS: the judge who issued the waiver was Lula’s former defense attorney and it appears arguably didn’t have the jurisdiction to issue the waiver (?) so the optics around impropriety basically could not be any worse

The airpods are the superior product, we just live in a country of larpers
80% of headphone-users on the L train to Brooklyn are corded rather than AirPods. Why is this? AirPods are a superior product, no?

I also had an ex with one of these in her car and she would regularly run lights like a full second after they went from yellow to red because she didn't want to set off the accelerometer Since then I've been extremely skeptical of the legality of these things
A few years ago, my car insurance offered a deal: put a tracker in your car for six months and MAYBE your insurance rate would go down. The tracker had a built-in accelerometer and any time you messed up, it beeped at you, letting you know you were a bad driver. I took the deal. What I noticed was that the most common reason for getting beeped at was slamming the brakes too hard. Coming to a sudden stop was, in the car insurance company's opinion, evidence of bad driving. Long story short, I ran a LOT of red lights over those six months. I wouldn't want to dangerously slam the brakes, after all. And after the six months were up, my insurance rate went way down!
