Just a reminder to everyone, investing is really hard. Even Leopold who has had an incredibly impressive run can get things wrong. Remember to go outside, go the gym, see your family, and enjoy things outside the market. Only then can you come back with fresh pensive to learn from your mistakes and be better on the next cycle. cnbc.com/2026/07/30/leopold-…

Based on the data I see, I think: - Anthropic🇺🇸/Google🇺🇸/OpenAI🇺🇸 all ~tied - Meta🇺🇸 / xAI🇺🇸 each ~7mo behind - Moonshot🇨🇳/- Deepseek🇨🇳 / zAI 🇨🇳 / Alibaba🇨🇳each ~9mo behind - Mistral🇫🇷 ~1.5 years behind - No other companies competitive
Both xAI and Meta seem to be falling behind, based on the Grok 4.2 benchmarks and this reporting. Frontier AI models are really a three way race at this point.

“But Waymo and Uber can easily compete with Tesla” lol it’s game over and this is just one of the many obvious reasons why
Dead waymos all over SF blocking roads due to power outage 😂😂😂

Another reason everyone was/is excited because of their effective use of FP8. The smaller matrices you use in this case 8 floating points, way harder to achieve the same performance or perceived intelligence. Most large LLMs use FP32 or FP16. The ironic thing is Tesla has been doing this for over 2 years in order to make FSD work on the small onboard car computer. They have FP8 specific patents. This is why Elon says “Tesla is the real world leader in AI” every earnings call, it’s for overlooked technical achievements. V13.2.2 may be the all around most efficient AI model out there. Never mind the fact performance has now got good enough to drive me 250 miles across three states with no interventions.
True. I am always interested in learning more. Please explain why my concern is misplaced.

Could not agree more with this analysis ⬇️. The one thing missing is also do any of these competitors have the in house manufacturing expertise to produce a competitive hardware suite at a cost per unit similar to $TSLA to convince consumers to buy the product and collect this data. So far no EV competitor is close when you factor in all specs. They all can’t continue to sell at gross margin losses and stay solvent…
Tsla's moat in self driving The self-driving space has been a battleground of ideas: LiDAR vs. cameras, rule-based to end-to-end. A lot of dead bodies with new entrants keep coming. As FSD pivots to end-to-end, there are a lot of discussions around its moat - why can’t other OEMs get there? what about $NVDA or $MBLY? Data stands at the heart of this discussion. While the importance of data volume and quality is widely recognized, nuances such as the type of data and its accessibility are often overlooked or undervalued. The right type of data is crucial. $Tsla has 9 (high resolution) cameras per car, while most existing fleets on the road have 1-2 of different quality. Although $Nvda sells ~1M units of Orin chips annually and $Mbly's EyeQ chips have 70% penetration - most of the installed vehicles don't produce the right kind of data for training. Access to data is equally critical. The presence of cameras doesn't guarantee usable data, with much of it not being saved or simply disconnected. Even when data is stored, third parties like $Nvda and $Mbly face hurdles using it in real-time. And of course, volume (and quality) of the data matters. $Waymo, rumored to be also pivoting to end-to-end, struggles with <500 vehicles and under 10 million miles of data. And this is not to underestimate the internal execution and organizational challenges of "removing 300,000 lines of code (and likely a complete reorg)". Potential competitors face three hurdles: producing the right type of data, accessing that data, and achieving sufficient volume and quality. This screening process effectively sidelines most existing fleets and creates obstacles for third-party providers. New EVs might meet the first two criteria but their fleet sizes fall short. $BYD stands out as a potential well-positioned player, albeit without a clear focus on autonomous driving so far. $Nvda vs. $Tsla in some way mirrors that of $Qcom vs. $Aapl, where $Nvda leads in chip design but lacks $Tsla's level of integration and ecosystem control. Players like $LI $XPEV and $NIO all use $Nvda's chips, yet they are developing their self-driving algorithms in-house. As the industry gravitates towards end-to-end approach, Tesla's moat actually seems to be widening.

A friend just texted me this. Let me answer to all of you who have the same question: 1. BYD mostly sells cars half the price of Tesla. The market for cheap electric vehicles is significantly larger than for more expensive vehicles. 2. BYD only exceeded sales in 1 quarter. For how many more quarters BYD can repeat this feat is yet to be seen. 3. BYD's auto business is likely very low margin. If Tesla dropped its prices to a level which would translate into similarly low margins Tesla would have sold a lot more cars, making it highly unlikely BYD could have beat Tesla. But BYD does not dare to disclose its auto business, hence I can't show you these numbers. 4. About 44% of BYD's sales are still non-BEV or ICE. Some people call them PHEVs.

Keep trying to tell people this! Although my one small gripe is @elonmusk need to add toll booths and have a cash vs EZ Pass option for us east coasters
First time using full self driving. It’s remarkable how advanced this technology is. I drove from my parents in Cape Coral all the way to my home in Fort Myers 15 miles on city streets and didn’t have to intervene even one time. People underestimate how much further ahead Tesla is than everyone else and how much of a massive advantage this will be.

As a reminder to all given today’s payrolls and news like the below, this generally is foreshadowing a slowing economy and potential recession. Although it may mean above trend inflation is over, it’s also not great and Fed needs to be careful with how tight they continue to make financial conditions: cnbc.com/2023/11/03/shipping…

2.3mm while slightly raising prices after Fed emergency cuts in Q1 because the economy is starting to spiral lower. Look at IYT, Copper, Utilities, major equity indices and most importantly 10yr-2yr spread (un-inverting)… all signaling recession is very close

I endorse this plan as well @elonmusk @tomzhu_nz. I would tweak it where FSD Transfer is always $5,000 and price today is dropped to $7500 for first time buyers, and increase price when V12 rolls out.
My plan to save Tesla: 1. Announce to customers that due to recent economic headwinds, FSD package price is being lowered to $5,000 2. Announce availability of new package: FSD with transfer for $10,000. Transferable to another car anytime 3. Cut FSD subscription price to $99

Tesla’s are now cheaper than Toyota Camry’s and have better lifetime value than a Corolla 😱. Everyone should consider owning an EV. Take it from someone who has 2 😎!

A global deflation shock is coming. It's one of the more interesting aspects of human psychology that we were all watching stretched delivery times intensely in 2021 and 2022, but now that the reverse is happening and this will drive goods deflation, no one's talking about it...

I am in Greg Mood again. Ahead of $TSLA's CMD, we have published this week a FANTASTIC piece of research, looking into the economics of the upcoming Model 2. If this tweet gets 10,000 likes and 1,000 retweet, I will share key findings on Twitter over the week end.
