The Trade Union Act 2016 represented the biggest encroachment on the right to strike in a generation. We are now straying perilously close to outright prohibition in certain sectors. It’s a dangerous direction of travel. The mark of a free society is its toleration of disruption.
With a resurgence of strikes in defense of living standards, there has been a growing focus on 'minimum service levels'. In order to avoid the pitfalls of 'using and misusing' comparative law @EPSU and @ETUI_org have compiled this excellent resource epsu.org/article/right-strik…

I favour locating discussion of P&O within the wider context of “fire and rehire”. They operate on a continuum of employer strategies to deregulate contractual terms. Otherwise, there is a risk that by treating the egregious case as unique, we obscure the wider systemic problems.

None of this would prevent another P&O happening tomorrow. It would modify the economic calculation, but law-breaking might well still be profitable.

Time to upgrade ppe protection for nhs staff. #COVIDisAirborne
Can anyone explain, please, why NHS are wearing surgical masks for droplet protection when FFP2 masks are designed for aerosol transmission - which is what Covid is all about? Is it why 19,000 NHS staff are off sick @CNOEngland @trishgreenhalgh what am I missing?

Breaking news from Chris Jeans QC in Smith v Pimlico: Agnew was listed in the Supreme Court earlier this year and then removed from the list. It had been presumed it had settled but apparently hasn't. I guess this means it might end up back in the list at some point.

Treasury announces it will ALSO cover employer National Insurance and pension contributions of furloughed workers
That's on top of covering 80% of salaries of workers.
Good for affected firms to get that clarification

She should have been speaking to Jeremy Corbyn every week since 2017. I hope he goes in and says exactly as we have been saying, we will vote for her deal if she puts it to the people. Jeremy has been chanting "Power to the people" his whole life so hope he says it now

Rees-Mogg wishes to vote again (for a third time) because the information he has access to and the circumstances have changed and he’s changed his mind. Why is this not an arguement for also putting the final deal to a public vote to assess if they agree with his change of mind?
