Let's be clear: immigration policy sits with national government. Nobody's disputing that. But pretending local government has nothing to do with it is a convenient way to let councillors off the hook.
Who enforces trading by-laws? Council. Who licenses spaza shops and sends health inspectors? Council. Who lets buildings get hijacked and does nothing? Council. Who decides whether metro police actually work with Home Affairs or look the other way? Council.
The effects of illegal immigration aren't felt in Parliament. They're felt in our townships, our CBDs and our communities, and that's exactly where councillors are supposed to be doing their jobs. So yes, we will hold them accountable for implementation.
And don't underestimate what happens on 4 November. Every party in Parliament will be reading these results. If South Africans vote on this issue, that's a clear message for 2029: get serious about the law, or get out of office.
This isn't about hating anyone. It's about enforcing the laws we already have and demanding that the people we elect actually do their jobs.

“This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to share.
Everyone knows how much Ukraine means to me. What I have rarely spoken about is what the war has done to me inside.
Last year, I told you I needed to step away from the court because I wasn't in the right emotional space. Today, I want to open up a little more. What you didn't see were the sleepless nights, the doubts, and the feeling of slowly losing myself.
Gaël saw all of it. He never let go of my hand. We fought through this together for a long time, with everything we had.
But some battles happen deep inside you, and no amount of love from someone else can win them for you.
With time, I came to understand that I need to find my way back to myself and that I cannot do that within our marriage. It is the hardest truth I have ever had to face and the hardest thing I have ever had to tell the person I love. Gaël listened. He has respected what I need with a strength and grace I will never forget.
Gael has loved me through my greatest joys and my darkest moments, and I have loved him with all my heart. Together, we built a beautiful life, and we were given the most precious gift of all, our daughter, Skai.

Masemola is back Monday. And now everyone knows what he was suspended for.
Ramaphosa pulled the plug. Masemola sat out six months.
September the charges dropped. Not because he was found clean. Because the NPA did not think it could win.
Now Ramaphosa has given him a public mandate. Rid the police service of corrupt individuals. Clean out everyone doing wrong.
Think about what that means.
The man who was suspended over a tender linked to one of the very networks Madlanga is now exposing is being told to lead the cleanup. Sibiya resigned in disgrace. Carrim got arrested at OR Tambo trying to flee. Hawks commanders are under search warrants. All of it circles back to the same place.
Ramaphosa either knows this. Or he does not.
If he knows, then the mandate is real. He is sending Masemola back with a clear instruction. Cut into it. These networks protected you once. Now you break them.
If he does not, then the mandate is just words. A headline. Something to say while the structures underneath stay exactly where they are.
Sibiya. Govender. Carrim. Matlala. The Medicare24 tender.
They are not separate stories. They are the same one, viewed from different angles.
Masemola's first weeks back will tell us which version this is.
Cape Town isn't like the rest of South Africa. We get our rain in winter, and even then it isn't as cold as people think. It's wet, green and actually beautiful. The tricky part is that the weather changes depending on where you are. You can leave Tokai or Muizenberg (Southern Suburbs)in the morning when it's freezing and misty, drive about 25 km to the CBD in 40 minutes, and find it warm and sunny, and now you're overdressed. Then you drive another 20 km out to Bellville (Northern burbs) and it's different again, sometimes hotter, sometimes windier or cloudier. That's why people say Cape Town can give you four seasons in one day. The tip is to dress in layers😭
