Let’s Roll” - A Hero’s Rolex Frozen In Time - Todd Beamer, an ordinary man who rose to the occasion when United Flight 93 was hijacked. Beamer’s gold and steel Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph was found among the debris, the date window–frozen in time, still reads “11.”

Everyone out here talking about Apple's new phones. I'm just interested in their design labs running a Raspberry Pi CM4-based resin printer, front and center in this shot lol

Throwing rubbish in a landfill is (usually) better for the environment than recycling it. With few exceptions, recycling ends up emitting more CO2 and costing more money, while landfills are cheap and secure. - Recycling mid-tier plastics (like plastic bottles or butter tubs) costs thousands of dollars per ton of CO2 saved. It's cheaper to do direct air CO2 capture than that! And there is no shortage of plastic, nor any problem with sequestering it in the ground once we're done with it. - Modern landfills are extraordinarily secure and are *much* more than just big piles of trash. They capture 75%–95% of methane gas. Groundwater contamination is doesn't really happen with landfills built since 1990. A study of 31 landfills built since 1988 in NY found no adverse effect at all on local groundwater quality. - The crusade against single-use plastics has driven us to products that use far more materials and energy and would need to be used an absurd number of times to actually be an improvement. A steel straw needs to be used 150 times to be worth using. A ceramic mug needs to be used 1,000 times to beat a polystyrene cup. A cotton bag needs to be reused 173 times to beat single-use. - Some things ARE worth recycling. Recycling metal saves a huge amount of energy and material – recycling aluminium saves 95% of the energy spent on making fresh stuff. So we do a lot of it already: about 30% of steel worldwide is recycled. Modern, well-run landfills cause minimal environmental damage. We have plenty of space for them – less than 0.01% of the US is used for landfill and only about 0.02% of Germany. We can even build on top of old landfills, so the land area is not spent permanently. New in @WorksInProgMag, @robertwiblin and @chalmermagne on why it's usually best to just bury your trash. worksinprogress.co/issue/jus…

Battleship, but the ships EXPLODE 💥 This is Capsized, a hackathon project by Formlabs mechanical engineering intern Nathan. The game is built from custom PCBs, a polycarbonate shield, a few capacitors, and a lot of 3D printed parts. Nathan and his team used the weekend to print, test, assemble, and blow up capacitors to create this awesome game The Form 4 SLA 3D Printer was essential to making this project come to life ⚫️ Internal enclosure - printed in Black Resin on the Form 4L ⛵️The boats - printed as a single fleet in Black Resin on the Form 4 🛡️ Knobs and shield handles - printed from Formlabs Tough 1500 Resin #3dprinting #gaming

The custom plastic frame is made out of Tough 1500 v2 on a @formlabs printer. They're basically unbreakable. It's incredible to be able to pull small mods like adding the IR leds in less than an hour.

This is great news from @formlabs - and every US manufacturer really. This is the only American owned additive manufacturing company today that has a chance of fighting off the unfolding and scary Chinese threat. They are in fact under assault from knock-offs and counterfeiters. What really separates FormLabs though is the material science and focus on chemistry and consumables. Massive margins for them, but they are reinvesting. Their business hardware is solid (but made overseas), but the materials are the Crown Jewels. Their leadership is incrementally learning how to deliver into the industrial landscape. I cannot think of an American industrial supplier right now that is performing better. They deliver the best print-sift-blast-polish ecosystem and are taking the fight to the legacy and very arrogant German EOS company with this latest machine. Just go and order an SLS system from FormLabs. (@67Designs is only a multi-year SLS @formlabs industrial customer. No ambassador relationship with them, but just want to see them grow and prosper.)
Fuse X1, Formlabs' newest industrial SLS (selective laser sintering) 3D printer. This large format SLS printer delivers huge parts same day, at half the cost and 3x the throughput of the competition. Plus, it’s backed by the quality and reliability of Formlabs. Reports of an explosion heard around Boston are believed to be a significant bolide/meteor entering the atmosphere, a very large flash was detected by GOES-19 satellite that does not correlate with active thunderstorms.

If you haven't heard, Valve released the Steam Controller CAD so that people can design their own mods and accessories for it. And if you don't have a 3D printer yourself, or want to try some more industrial-quality materials, you can get them printed through a service like Form Now. I designed this hand stand to hold the controller and in 2 days, had it printed and delivered with Form Now. Here's the model if you'd like to get one for yourself: bit.ly/4tzQqVo

You all thought the multipolar world order meant China and Russia get to call the shots when it actually meant a former Al-Qaeda commander teams up with a Jewish Ukrainian comedian to take down Iran.

The “US manufacturing renaissance” guys are too over-aligned on military production. It’s ultimately a small market. If you want to be a major manufacturing power - which, to be clear, the US is - you need to be thinking about production for the civilian sector. Military potential is a derivation of the civilian economy There’s a reason why the most important US military innovation in recent years - Starlink - came out of the civilian market, and not the other way around

While Ukrainian athlete who honor his fallen teammates face ban, Russian lugers Pavel Repilov and Daria Olesik were allowed to compete under a “neutral” flag after openly promoting a company that co-produces the very drones killing Ukrainians. The company, Energon LLC, is under strict international sanctions. Yet these athletes compete freely. @iocmedia hypocrites.

This was me at 27, before russia's full-scale invasion. Back then I was traveling Europe, settling in southern Spain 🇪🇸 - beach days, volleyball, new friends, pizza, cold beers 🍻. A simple, happy life. Now I'm 32. The best years are gone. Stolen by russia's war. I just want it to end. I want russia to collapse so this nightmare can stop. I'll never be the same person. I've heard too many mothers scream when rockets took their children. I've seen grown men break down over their brothers' bodies. Too many explosions. I hate that I know the sound of cruise missiles from ballistic ones now, that trash cans slamming shut make me tense. That moped engines send my dog into panic that suicide drones are coming. Sirens still put my mind straight into survival mode. No one should have to live this way. Ukrainians shouldn't have to live this way. For the past 1,326 days, I've tried to do what I could to help - every single day. No breaks, No excuses. Not because I'm anything special, but because sitting still felt impossible. That's all. Slava Ukraini. 🇺🇦

I designed an MRI-safe torque wrench that can be printed in place in a single piece on a Fuse 1+. Doesn’t rely on friction so it keeps 0.6Nm after hundreds of cycles. It works great but has one MAJOR flaw—can anyone guess from the pictures?
