You either hit 10M Shorts views in 90 days and qualify for ad revenue, or you don’t. That’s roughly $1K at a $0.10 RPM. Now YouTube is offering select creators $300/month, or $900 over that same 90-day period, without necessarily needing to hit 10M views. I think YouTube may be testing whether it’s more worthwhile to selectively pay creators rather than make monetization so black and white. Otherwise, why would established long-form creators bother diversifying into Shorts if the barrier to earning anything is that high? Meanwhile, AI slop channels could still brute-force their way to 10M views through sheer volume, even though that’s probably not the kind of content YouTube wants more of. Instead of lowering the threshold for everyone, keep it at 10M and selectively incentivize creators who already make original content with intent. Even if that means paying some creators more than their Shorts would’ve traditionally earned. You encourage more established creators to make Shorts without opening up monetization to every low-effort content farm. Pay more to the creators you actually want creating content, rather than paying everyone who can generate views.
YouTube just launched a Shorts bonus program. I got invited. Here's how it actually works: → Post 12+ public Shorts a month → Hit that and you get a guaranteed base payment → Then a bonus on top based on your engaged Shorts views The rundown: • Invite only. No application. Check the email tied to your YouTube and your Studio inbox • Accept in Studio by Nov 15 to start earning in November • Quota resets every calendar month. Miss it, no payout that month • Only organic views count. Promoted views don't • You have to still be monetized at the end of the month • Paid with your normal AdSense, around the 21st to 26th of the next month What doesn't matter: • Notify subscribers on or off. It just has to be public • Nothing says you can't clip your own long-form, including YouTube's built-in "Edit into a Short" What does: • Your own content only. Normal YPP rules • Don't spam near-identical clips. YouTube is cracking down on low-effort repetitive stuff. Not worth losing monetization over a bonus 12 Shorts a month is 3 a week. If you already make long-form, you're sitting on your quota. Go check your email.

Editors love saying: "I'll boost your retention." "I'll help you get more views." "I'll increase your sales." Meanwhile the creator is thinking: "Can you just deliver on time so I can post consistently?" Creators don't hire editors to be strategists. They hire editors to save them time. Stop selling what they didn't ask for. Start delivering what they actually need.

If you want to get ahead, just be easy to work with. Show up on time. Do what you said you'd do. Bring solutions, not problems. Never create drama. Be responsive. Be emotionally consistent. Be kind. People will always want to support someone who just makes their life easier.

I’m looking for the 1 editor who can do what the last 68 couldn’t. 68 editors applied last round. A few made it far enough to edit multiple videos for me. 0 became a long-term fit. I’m not looking for another decent editor. I’m looking for the best long-form gaming editors out there. Apply here: forms.gle/hw7UFcMRv9qwca2T7 Before applying, read this thread. It explains where people fell short and what it will take to be the exception. ⬇️

Want the best chance of moving forward? Complete the optional 2 to 3 minute unpaid demo inside the application. Last round, 50% of applicants who submitted a demo moved forward, compared with just 13% of those who applied without one. Edit it as the natural opening of a 20+ minute video, not a trailer. Apply only here: forms.gle/hw7UFcMRv9qwca2T7 Do not comment or DM. Those submissions will not be considered. If you ignore that, you are publicly showing every creator who sees it that you cannot follow simple instructions.

Here's the bottom line: I’m looking for a great fit: strong editing, good judgment, clear communication, and reliable delivery. Pay, workload, and turnaround are open for discussion. The goal is an agreement we’re both happy to move forward with. You can apply with your existing portfolio. The unpaid demo is optional if you want to demonstrate how you’d approach my content. I appreciate all those who have applied so far and those who considered.

Early in my YouTube journey, some friends used to clown me for my “cringe” intros. A few days after I hit 100K subscribers, some of those same people were asking me to put them on game. And I did. I told them exactly what I’d do if I had to start over. I’d already monetized two other channels in the process. That’s when I realized a lot of people want change, but not the discomfort that comes before it. For me, that meant paying cringe tax. Maybe they just weren’t as desperate for change as I was when I decided to hit record. I was willing to look stupid before I ever looked successful.

Yes, I DO review every submission, portfolio, demo, and linked account. I may not have time to send individual feedback to every applicant, but every application is thoroughly considered. I look at the work, the fit, and whether you actually understand the channel. This is what reviewing 68 applications looks like.

I streamed to 0 people for a YEAR starting in 2023… I followed @LudwigAhgren’s content advice… and today I hit 100,000 YouTube subscribers. All organic. I started streaming once a week and learned to build each stream around a story: a problem to solve, a buildup, a climax, and a resolution. It sounds cliché… but giving people something to follow and a reason to stay for the ending made a real difference in my streams. Those streams became long-form videos. Those videos became Shorts. Each one gave new people a way to find the channel. Livestream → Long-form video → Shorts. All on YouTube. 3 years of learning and refining that while working a full-time 9-5. I just wanted to change my life. Ludwig’s advice worked for me. I think a lot of people try it, but don’t fully grasp how to make the streams, videos, and Shorts work together. If you wanna see how I put it into practice, check out my channel… I left almost everything up, so you can see the ENTIRE journey: youtube.com/@mazelabz

📊UPDATE: Only 7% did the optional demo. Half moved forward. That is nearly 2× the success rate of portfolio-only applicants. A portfolio proves you can edit. A tailored demo proves you can edit for them. The lesson for editors: read the brief, follow the instructions, and remove the client’s uncertainty. Don’t just apply. Make yourself easy to hire.
🎬 HIRING LONG-FORM GAMING EDITORS I see a lot of editors on X make a BANGER 30-second intro… But when it comes to a full edit, that same energy disappears somewhere in the other 20+ minutes. 😭 If that’s not you, here’s your chance to prove it. My channel + editing reference: youtube.com/@mazelabz/videos WHAT YOU’LL BE EDITING • 1–3 hr raw VOD → 20+ min video • B-roll + voiceovers provided • 3-day turnaround MAX • Consistent, long-term work • Strong communication + reliability are a MUST 2 WAYS TO APPLY ① PORTFOLIO Send me your portfolio. I’ll review submissions and reach out to editors I want to move forward with for a paid full-video trial. ② WANT TO STAND OUT? Edit 3–5 continuous minutes from my demo at no cost and send me your sample. Everything you need is in the doc below, including footage, assets, references, and instructions. Please read it thoroughly before reaching out. Demo: docs.google.com/document/d/1… A strong demo will significantly increase your chances of being selected for a paid full-video trial. Think you’re a fit? DM me. 🤝

Better question: how did you make the cost worth it?
What has growing your YouTube channel cost you so far?
