NEW: iPhone Duo screen-cracking issue is real. Apple hasn’t given stores or customer service representatives guidance but the company is investigating. Several people have sent me images and stories of their new $2000 device breaking within hours. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

New Apple CEO John Ternus is apparently working from the company's secretive design studio several times per week, sometimes even visiting multiple times per day.
He seems to be taking a direct hands-on approach to product design, whereas Tim Cook would only visit once a month.

This is just a carrier upset it cannot charge full price for 2 lines if someone has 2 phones.
AT&T seemingly has no plans to support Apple's new iPhone Handoff feature. The carrier pointed to existing eSIM activation and transfer options instead...

❗️ Benchmarks show the 1TB iPhone 18 Pro Max becomes as slow as an SD card due to its QLC memory. The $600 cheaper 256GB model uses TLC and is way faster.
HOMOLAB found the 1TB's QLC storage falls from 3,000+ MB/s to an average of 79.4 MB/s once its caches fill, dipping to 1.1 MB/s at 60% full.
A 512GB iPhone 18 Pro with TLC beat it in every mixed read/write test, by up to 38%.

FLORIDA FRONT! The first actual cool front of the season is coming for this weekend.
Temperatures will run 5-15 degrees below average, and humidity 50% or more below average. Dew points will fall quite a bit Saturday and Sunday and it will be very noticeable and more comfortable.

PSA about EV charging.
I spent the morning swapping out my son’s 50A receptacle at his rental house (installed by a certified electrician!) due to heat damage.
He was alerted to possible problems by the Tesla Mobile Connector dropping charging amps from 32A to 16A.
Sure enough when I got there, I saw signs of overheating on one of the blades.
So I did what the “professional electrician” should have done and spent an extra $30 to buy an EV grade receptacle. $41 instead of $11 at Home Depot and the house doesn’t burn down. I consider that a deal.
If you are charging via a 50A receptacle and it doesn’t have an EV symbol on it like this (or isn’t a Bryant or Hubbell), do yourself a favor and replace it with one that does.
It’s usually a pain in the butt because the better receptacle usually has a bigger diameter and depth, so take careful measurements and pictures to understand the physical layout.
Frankly, I’m still astounded that we have this incredibly over engineered electrical code, yet the testing labs (like UL) allow junk receptacles to still be sold.

Apple’s new focus on influencers for events and product “reviews” — people who say nothing but positive things and never ask a legitimate question of Apple executives in exchange for free devices, travel and more, is a serious issue. This echo chamber will lead to mediocrity.

GM is bringing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto back to its vehicles after getting rid of it a couple years ago.
"As we evolve our UI systems, we want customers to feel like they're interacting with a single experience rather than moving from room to room inside a house," Mike Wahlstrom, GM's connected apps and services leader, said in a statement. finance.yahoo.com/markets/ar…
