DAY 3 HIGHLIGHT | AWA INVESTMENT ARBITRATION TRAINING
The final day of the 2026 African Women in Arbitration (@WArbitration ) Investment Arbitration Training featured a presentation by Dr. Crispus Nyombi on the Africanisation of investor-state arbitration, highlighting its application and relevance in the African context.
Participants then took part in a mock arbitration exercise that brought together lessons covered throughout the training. Divided into two teams representing investor Orion Resources and the Republic of Kintaba, participants examined key aspects of investor-state arbitration, including jurisdiction, admissibility of claims and the merits of a dispute.
The exercise provided a practical opportunity to apply the concepts learned, with Mr. Gustavo Laborde serving as the chief arbitrator and guiding participants through the arguments presented by both teams.
The training concluded with the awarding of certificates to participants and partner institutions, including the Centre for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (@CADR_MoJCA ), the Uganda Law Society and Mr. Laborde, in recognition of their participation and contribution to the programme.
A networking cocktail followed, marking the close of the two-day training organised by AWA in collaboration with @CADR_MoJCA under the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. @MoJCAUG

▶️Strengthening institutional capacity – ODPP, Uganda Police Force, Uganda Prison Service, UHRC, Local Council Courts – to reduce case backlogs through special court sessions and ADR
▶️Advancing social transformation by tackling harmful practices including FGM, child marriage, and emerging forms of violence such as technology-facilitated GBV
“This support reflects Austria’s continued commitment to strengthening the rule of law and protecting the rights of vulnerable populations,” said @Dr_KatjaK, Head of Austrian Embassy in Uganda
“By streamlining integrated health, justice, and protection services, UNFPA is committed to ensuring that every survivor of GBV receives rapid, dignified, and survivor-centered support,” said Ms. Kristine Blokhus, @UNFPAUganda Country Representative.
