Today the 12th session of the UN Open-Ended Working Group on TNCs & Human Rights kicks off in Geneva, and we are taking part. From 2014's resolution 26/9 to now, it has been 12 years of pushing for a legally binding instrument to regulate transnational corporations. We call for a treaty that: ▪︎Puts rights holders at the centre ▪︎Ensures mandatory human rights due diligence ▪︎Guarantees access to justice across borders ▪︎Holds parent companies liable A treaty without strong remedy is not a treaty at all. #bizhumanrights #humanrights @UNHumanRights @ESCRNet @WGBizHRs @UccaUg

"It is the disease of Uganda reacting instead of planning. Minister of Health: it is about to rain. Next year we will have 2,500 to 3,000 interns completing their training. What is your plan? Can you please engage us now and preempt the problem?" Dr. Frank Asiimwe Rubabinda, President, UMA speaking @elisonk

We commend @NIRA_Ug for convening the My Identity Expo and Symposium, creating an important space for communities to interact directly with @NIRA_Ug and other stakeholders on identity and civil registration. The Expo is timely. #NdagaMuntu, Uganda’s foundational digital identity system, is increasingly a key gateway to public services such as education, healthcare and social protection. Through our research, multi-stakeholder engagements, and policy advocacy on digital ID and broadly Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), we have advocated for communities to be meaningfully centred in the design, implementation, and governance of identity systems. We have long recommended bringing identity services, information, and sensitisation closer to communities in our work on digital ID. We welcome this opportunity to bring stakeholders and communities together and look forward to continued engagement towards an inclusive, accessible and people-centred digital identity ecosystem. On #InternationalIdentityDay2026, ISER calls for human rights to be centred in Uganda’s digital national identification system. We commend @NIRA_Ug for efforts to expand registration. However, 25% of people remain unregistered, correction costs remain high, and NIRA faces staffing constraints, while the #NdagaMuntu remains a mandatory requirement for accessing vital public services. Key to note is that universal identity requires more than registration. Systems must be accessible, inclusive, affordable, non-discriminatory and accountable. ISER therefore calls on @GovUganda to; ▪️strengthen NIRA’s capacity ▪️reduce costs and simplify processes in correcting ID errors ▪️decentralise registration ▪️allow alternative forms of identification and verification, ▪️undertake and publish a Human Rights Impact Assessment of the digital national ID system, and ▪️strengthen data protection and privacy safeguards. For details, read our statement: iser-uganda.org/wp-content/u… #IDDay2026 #MyIdentityMyShadow

“We don’t have money to pay your school fees” For some families, the cost of keeping a child in school can mean difficult choices. For some children, it means leaving school and engaging in work. ISER’s latest video explores how school charges contribute to children being pushed into child labour and why addressing the cost of education must be part of the response. In her opening remarks, @NakulimaSaphina notes that Uganda's public debt has reached UGX 130 trillion, but behind every figure is a person. Behind every fiscal decision is a family. Behind every policy choice is an opportunity either to advance or stifle human rights. She reminds us that public debt is not just about numbers; it affects access to healthcare, education, social protection, and climate resilience. #DebtJustice @social_rights @GovUganda @Parliament_Ug @mofpedU @CSBAGUGANDA

Where does health money actually go? During the 2nd global dialogue convened by @WHO Civil Society Commission & @save_children, ISER's @latorento, speaking as a panelist, plainly noted that citizens can't hold governments accountable without knowing where health funds come from and how they're spent. Dr. Kayondo Simon Peter’s honesty about the violence inside labour wards is exactly what moves the conversation on obstetric violence and maternal health accountability forward. A reminder to every maternal health provider that informed consent doesn't pause once labour begins. A woman on the maternity bed still has a right to dignity, privacy and informed consent. 🔗monitor.co.ug/uganda/magazin… @Psmonkay @AOGU1985 @MinofHealthUG
