Ukraine agreed to a full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire in March 2025. 51 UN member states call on Russia to finally do the same.
They have issued a joint statement in support of Ukraine.
"We stand in solidarity with Ukraine as it continues to face Russia’s war of aggression," the statement says.
The partner countries called for protecting freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, commercial shipping and critical infrastructure, and safeguarding Ukrainian grain exports and global food security. They also called on Russia to immediately return all arbitrarily detained, forcibly transferred or deported Ukrainian civilians, including children, as well as all prisoners of war and internees.
"Ukraine wants peace. We want peace. Russia must stop its aggression, accept a ceasefire, and engage meaningfully in negotiations towards a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law," they stressed.
We thank all partner countries for their strong support and solidarity with Ukraine.

At the #UNSC debate, CANZ 🇨🇦🇦🇺🇳🇿called to:
⚪️ End attacks on schools and hospitals
⚪️ Protect humanitarian workers
⚪️ Uphold international law
⚪️ Hold perpetrators to account
No child should ever be a target.

We know what works.
CANZ's statement on Women, Peace and Security reminded us that the problem faced today is not a lack of norms but a persistent failure of implementation. When hard-won progress is undermined, we risk collective safety, stability and security. @CanadaUN @NZUN

May 2026 marks 10 years since UNSC Resolution 2286 - protecting healthcare in armed conflict. 🇳🇿 is proud to have co-led this landmark effort with Egypt, Japan, Spain, & Uruguay in 2016.
The resolution was historic, the first of its kind on this issue & supported by over 80 countries - making it one of the most widely co-sponsored UNSC resolutions.
Yet attacks on medical workers & facilities continue. This is unacceptable. Protecting healthcare is not optional. This resolution matters as much today as it did in 2016.

With the adoption of the resolution on mandate creation, implementation and review for an efficient and effective UN, the General Assembly took an important step to make the UN more agile, more efficient, more effective, and fit for the future.
