Rest in peace Kazuhiko Yamaguchi, director of the Sister Street Fighter, Wandering Ginza Butterfly and Delinquent Girl Boss series. Easily one of the best directors at Toei at that time 😥

sister jeanne laughs in madeline’s face when the girl says the nuns are there bc they love god, correcting her that they’re there because they’re women who are unwanted by society. its painful to watch people try to wokescold a movie that already knows and addresses your point!
Replying to @AceHainley
ALSO disabled women at that time were sent to become nuns so it’s possible her being there in the first place was involuntary! i have more thoughts but i def have to watch it again to get my head straight

Very grateful that we can make a living by serving fans who will happily buy a well-made legal copy of something they probably already have a pirated copy of.

It's super valid and I wish more of us english speaking toku fans were aware of this. I made a post a while back talking about 'oh Taisho era, look at the clothes' but remember, Korea was annexed in 1911 and was governed under the oppression of Taisho Japan starting in 1912.
I have seen some Korean tokusatsu fans not being happy about Kamen Rider My-th because of the romanticization of the Taisho era, which is an era where Korea is under the oppressive colonial rule of Japan. Yeah, I could see why people over there would be outraged.

We all need to understand that when media 'romanticizes' an Imperial, Colonial, or even Gee-Whiz-But-Racism Past, it's about what's NOT being said DESPITE you knowing from your grandparents or history books how it might have been. Did we all forget Sakura Wars? That's Taisho...

I hate some gut feelings (even though I haven't had the time to watch it) that 'maybe' MY-TH *might* critique the Juunishi Doumei, and by extension the Taisho Era, but we'll have to wait and see. Until then, I think what Korean fans are feeling is pretty valid.

Day 1 and 2 done! We’re making our San Francisco movie while a Netflix show and a nepo baby period piece both 50x our budget are tryna to poach our crew, gears and locations. But they don’t got Brian Le teaching Joan Chen how to capture a hopping corpse on his days off.

Grab a player if ya can because Panasonic prices are going to go up again. For region free Blu-Ray playback get a PS3 and flash it. Is way cheaper that route.

And even if a work is somewhat popular in Japan, some of the western distributor might not feel there's similar interest in the West. So piracy becomes a way to measure and gauge interest in a particular piece of Japanese media.

If a piece of Japanese media is deemed to not have enough of an interest in western market to make any money off it, then western licensors will just ignore it.

In other words, western companies might not want to just import and license every Japanese work, but rather they want to see if there's enough people in the west that are interested in a particular manga or anime before paying the licensing fee and pay for a translation.

I think there are a lot of Japanese on twitter that might not realise a lot of western companies actually look at whether a Japanese IP has demand in the west by looking at how many westerners pirated it, before deciding to license and translate it.
