Find it really strange that aviation emissions appear to include how airport coffee shops are powered but doesn’t include all the fuel burned to fly the planes!?
Yesterday I visited @STN_Airport to see how its new solar farm is helping the airport grow more sustainably. We back expansion where it boosts jobs and growth while cutting emissions. This is why we’re driving green innovation in aviation with £43m for projects across the UK.

Car lanes transport the fewest people per hour and are the least efficient. Cycle lanes move 7,500 people p/h; bus lanes can move 8,000 p/h. To reduce gridlock, we should not prioritise cars, in areas where car ownership is low. In Inner London 62% of households are car-free.

Andreas Malm is an activist but also a provocative and thoughtful historian. His banishment from the UK should provoke particular consternation for those in our profession. Here is his wonderful account of how climate change challenges the way we relate the past to the present.

Violet Jessop was a nurse who served on the three sister ships: #Titanic, #Britannic and #Olympics. The Titanic hit an iceberg and sank, Britannic hit an underwater mine and sank, the Olympic collided with a warship and nearly sank. Violet survived all three, here she is in 1915.

In 2022 the North East was awarded £163 million, the highest in the country, to improve bus services in the region. The BSIP proposals included extensive bus priority corridors, with new & extended bus lanes to protect bus services from traffic congestion. northeast-ca.gov.uk/how-we-w…

Independent mobility builds confidence. A child who can walk to school learns to navigate space, manage risk, and take pride in independence. A child chauffeured twice a day learns dependence, passivity, and helplessness.

Obligatory training for bus drivers in Cariacica🇧🇷. Should we do this for every politician, decision maker and engineer who design our street?

A massive, hard won victory for the Campaign for @LevelBoarding and its allies in @TransportForAll, as well as supporters of @Railnatter given they've helped me to lobby for this behind the scenes.

Welcome in GBR's rolling stock strategy is the commitment to low-floor trains that provide level-boarding. This is long overdue!

If your'e interested in the distribution of surnames this is a brilliant link apps.geods.ac.uk/gbnames/ with an animation of surname distribution from 1851 onward. Try out the Gaelic-rooted surname Strachan (from a place) compared to its Northumbrian interpretation Straughan.

Traffic calming opponents either don't understand how street design saves lives, or they don't care. Either way, never put a safety project up for Yes/No vote. Too many people are willing to let others suffer so they might save a few seconds while driving.

We deserve better buses in the North East! Currently there’s a vast range of complicated operator-specific tickets, an array of confusing route names & colours, and MANY duplicated route numbers! (There’s four DIFFERENT number 10s in Newcastle city centre for God’s sake!)
