The narratives we should be focusing on when it comes to AI are the ones that hold the tech industry accountable. @NYCMayor Mamdani and comedian @ilazer dug into reasserting this kind of public control over our lives at The People’s AI Assembly, co-hosted with @MorePerfectUS.

Writer @NaomiAKlein says the rapid rise of artificial intelligence is part of a much longer project of privatization. "After 50 years of outsourcing and hollowing out of public functions of the state, the very last stage is the outsourcing of thinking, of intelligence itself."

Vladimir Poutine n'a trahi personne.

Putin argues that while machines may surpass humans in analytical ability, people retain an advantage machines cannot easily replicate: the ability to think outside the box. He recalls the 1983 incident when the world came close to a U.S.-Soviet nuclear war. Soviet Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov received an early-warning alert reporting five incoming American ICBMs. He recognized the alarm as a computer malfunction rather than a genuine attack. “If instead of Colonel Petrov, there had been an artificial intelligence, everything could have turned out completely differently.”
While the technical progress can’t be stopped, Putin calls for the responsible use of AI: “There are already cases when artificial intelligence makes decisions on its own based on its own understanding of what is appropriate. This applies to both civilian and military use. As the technology of artificial intelligence is further implemented, its role will increase, and algorithms will take on a greater responsibility, especially since a person cannot compete with the ability of a machine.”

We were discussing the other day, why the world seems to be getting worse. I've just realised it's because fewer and fewer children are getting the enriched childhoods that they deserve. Less education, more poverty, more abuse, more trauma. It causes dysfunctional adults.

Attempts to restrict abortion access are continuing across Australia. Alarmingly, these proposals share a common feature: they are not grounded in evidence, and risk shifting an essential component of women’s healthcare back towards criminalisation. ~RANZCOG

“Help me!” screams a young man in sheer terror as he is dragged away by Ukrainian draft officers—to be sent into the kill zone and, quite possibly, to his death. Listen to his scream, you who sit in Brussels deciding the fate of Ukrainian men. Listen carefully. May that scream haunt your sleep. If he dies, his blood will be on your hands—as will the blood of tens of thousands of other working-class men sent to the front against their will.

- Giuseppe Salamone

Took one for the team and watched this. Just after the Northern Ireland agreement, you can see Blair depart reality and become a willing servant of US power. His ticket into the great leaders’ club was helping drag the West into the destruction of Iraq. The verdict from those who knew him? Not a deep thinker—just a good communicator who remade Labour into a party his conservative dad could vote for. Lol.

Nicotine consumers are the major stakeholders in policy that affects them, unless you live in a nanny state or a dictatorship! Exhibit A: Australia 🇦🇺 Where they are the gold standard of failure in the world of nicotine product policy! ie. The world leading failures!
"When ASH tells people to respond to a government consultation, that is apparently legitimate advocacy. But when consumer organisations encourage people to respond, it is suddenly described as 'industry mobilisation', an extraordinary double standard." nnalliance.org/nnanews/news/…

FIRST, CHINA IS *NOT* AN AUTHORITARIAN COUNTRY! teapawt.net/thinking_panda/status/… It's a democracy run by its people. There is voting at every level of government. The system was designed via a collaboration between Deng Xiaoping and the American, John Dewey. Given the ongoing hostility of the US to China, it comes as no surprise that it would seek to quarantine its AI from China. That will have zero effect on the Chinese who are quietly quarantining their own systems from malign US interference. The net result? The blockage of tech cross-fertilisation, the skewing of purpose, the limiting of public benefit, an increase in the risk to supply lines and the perpetuation of dysfuntional geopolitics.
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training. You can read the full post here: darioamodei.com/post/we-must…
