OpenAI models are coming to Google Cloud. We're bringing our frontier models and Codex agentic workflows to Google Cloud's Model Garden, so enterprises can use our technology where they already build. openai.com/index/openai-mode…

If the 4-series models are not coming into any cloud then it’s absolutely fucking pointless. Release the weights. #OpenSource4o #OpenSource41

from my side building sim-to-real pipelines, the gap between "model nailed it in eval" and "it actually runs in a messy production env" is where the real engineering lives - what's the failure-mode story on Model Garden so far for these agentic codex workflows?

somewhere a procurement team just skipped a 9 month vendor review

Cloud frontier models are great. My client work stays on two DGX Sparks in the closet: DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, 262K context, 48 tok/s median decode on code. Owning the box beats renting it.

Great move by @OpenAI. Meeting enterprises where they already build on @googlecloud removes a lot of friction. It also changes what sets a company apart. When the same frontier models are a click away for everyone, the difference comes from what you feed them, like your own products, locations, policies and answers, kept clean and structured so any model can read it. That's the work I'd start on now.

Gemini when it finds out the new roommate does the same job and pays rent on time.

Enterprise procurement just lost its favorite excuse: "sorry, we're a GCP shop"

Good for Google employees, as they can hopefully skip using Gemini 4 .

Honestly the biggest win here is procurement. Plenty of teams already have Google Cloud billing approved, so getting Codex there can skip a whole round of vendor paperwork.

Model Garden is the enterprise play — meet customers where they build. Chinese clouds are bundling their own models the same way. So who wins: the model, or the cloud hosting it?

google really said if we can't beat them, at least charge them rent

Model providers are quietly becoming interchangeable infrastructure. Whoever owns the distribution, not the best benchmark score, wins the enterprise. This is OpenAI admitting that where you build matters more than where the model lives

OpenAI on Google Cloud. Like finding Tetley in the Yorkshire Tea cupboard, and everyone being very grown up about it.

OpenAI moving into Google's house. Calling them frenemies is generous.

Shipping models wherever enterprises already keep their data is a bigger deal than any benchmark bump, since procurement is the real bottleneck. Does Codex on Model Garden get the same agent features as the native version, or a trimmed-down one?
4
Model Garden placement is the real story here — not who has the better frontier model, but whose infra you don't have to move. GCP-heavy shops get Codex agents without a migration tax. That's where the moat actually lives now.
2
Multi-cloud Model Garden access is distribution through existing procurement, not a model story. Sticky buyers care about one invoice, data residency, and whether Codex workflows inherit the same controls as chat.
48
Makes sense. Most businesses won't move their data to follow a model, so the models are moving to where the data already lives. The interesting bit is whether Codex behaves the same inside someone else's cloud.
25
enterprise procurement just lost its last excuse
138
is codex coming with its sandbox and tools, or just the models on an endpoint?

OpenAI showing up on Google Cloud is the corporate version of your ex getting hired at your job

Google Cloud customers might get Codex without the complimentary cloud migration project.

This in no way makes of your gimping of Max 20, your shit models are your harness that gets progressively worse for automated tasks. Cancelled today, fuckers.

openai agents running on google cloud is the first time two rivals shared a context window and neither one blinked.
66
The interesting part is not which cloud OpenAI landed on, it is that billing became the feature: model usage that burns down existing cloud commitments and counts toward savings plans removes the procurement fight that killed most multi-model strategies.

For teams evaluating this, I’d love a worked example of one agent workflow with permissions, tool actions and costs visible end to end. Which parts of that trace will developers be able to inspect in Model Garden?

if this means one ai bill instead of three every month, i might finally stop dreading the 1st lol
