With reports of poppy sellers being targeted by pro-Palestinian protesters, it’s time to put political differences aside. Our elderly volunteers should never face intimidation for selling poppies and honouring our war dead. Whatever our political views, we must stand together to ensure they can carry out their work safely. Protect our poppy sellers. Honour our fallen. Defend our right to remember.

Wes Streeting has told us last week that we have 1,000 days to get war-ready amid the intensifying threats and aggression from Vladimir Putin. The Defence Secretary’s ‘1,000 days’ deadline rests on an earlier warning by the former prime minister Keir Starmer. He had warned that Russia could attack Nato by the end of the decade. However, looking at the Budget this week, it's clear Labour's priorities don't lie with getting Britain ready to face the threats of tomorrow. Chancellor John Healey made no mention of the government's ‘Be Ready’ resilience campaign, and the funding for 3 per cent of GDP on defence by 2030 has been pushed back to next year's spending review. ✍️ Ted Jeffery Article | spectator.com/article/is-now…

An ice cream company president in Japan stood in a dark suit in front of a hundred factory workers and bowed on national television over nine cents. His company makes the blue soda popsicle that every kid in Japan buys with pocket change after baseball practice on a hot summer afternoon. For a quarter of a century, the company fought inflation to keep the price at roughly forty cents—because everyone in the factory knew little kids were counting coins in front of the freezer case. When soaring ingredient costs finally forced them to raise the price by nine cents, the executives refused to shrink the popsicle behind the scenes or hide the increase in fine print. Instead, the president and a hundred employees lined up outside company headquarters, stood still for sixty seconds on prime-time television, and bowed in silent apology to the children of Japan. Nobody was angry. Sales jumped ten percent the very next month because parents wanted to support a company that treated a child's allowance like a sacred contract. A nation's integrity is not measured by the size of its corporations, but by how honestly they treat a child holding a handful of coins.

⚡️ Lavrov lets the cat out of the bag: there's no rapprochement between Russia and the US Sanctions remain in place, weapons deliveries continue, strikes deep inside Russian territory haven't stopped — and the diesel deal turned out to be a whole lot of nothing. “As for the enthusiastic claims by some of our political analysts and experts that the diesel deal has broken the blockade, it's time to come back down to earth and stop clinging to illusions,” Lavrov said. All that Kremlin propaganda effort — straight down the drain…
