No, honey, not "playing." I'm preparing for what humans can uniquely do in the AI era.
Walter Isaacson asks Peter Thiel what humans can uniquely do in the AI era. Thiel: "We're very relational… these relational dimensions will become more important." When knowledge is worth $0, the only career skills that matter: - networking / social calibration - persuasion (sales) - curiosity (harnessing AI) - taste (curation) - storytelling - grit - golfing with clients (or equivalent) We'll get so sick of a fake world that we'll go back to doing business like it's the 1800s. A handshake at the local saloon.

Humans need friction. So does the economy. Wrote about Musing Ourselves to Death & what a future where the internet transforms into a place for AI assistants to perfect commerce. Spoiler: We talked to some smart ppl & it would be chaotic! w/ @matteo_wong theatlantic.com/technology/2…

It Will Kill Us No company should get to decide how much danger the rest of us have to live with without telling us what’s at stake. Even if its products are useful. Even if millions of people choose them. Even if the people building them believe they are improving the world. When human lives are at stake, good intentions are not a safety strategy. We should be asking whether these systems are aligned with human wellbeing. Whether their creators are honest about the risks. And whether their incentives reward making our lives better or simply making their products harder to live without. Scrutiny should be as widespread as adoption, with particular attention to incentives. These companies promise to make our lives easier. They get rewarded for making their products more compelling, expanding distribution and increasing use. But widespread adoption is not proof of widespread benefit. Public safety has to be an obligation. We can’t run a population-scale experiment in which the financial rewards are private and the risks belong to everyone. I’m talking about ultra-processed food, by the way. If you thought I was talking about AI, there are plenty of parallels with the current debate. And as with food, I’m optimistic about its future. I believe in AI’s potential benefits, and I want the people building it held accountable for its risks. I also want that same standard applied to my industry. A 2025 CDC report found that ultra-processed foods supplied roughly 62% of daily calories for American children and teenagers. Separately, research in adults has linked higher consumption to greater risks of type 2 diabetes and early death. At sweetgreen, our job is to make real food so delicious, convenient and accessible that people choose it. The fear surrounding AI is that we’ll build something enormously profitable, become dependent on it and discover too late that human wellbeing was never a condition of its success. The food industry doesn’t have to imagine that future. We have to stop accepting it as the present.

Seek out the people who show their work: the messy build-in-public people, the guy posting his ugly draft, the girl posting her 11th failed attempt… these people are medicine. Subscribe to them aggressively.
One of the greatest viruses of the modern man is looking at Instagram Stories. You will melt your brain looking at a barrage of outcomes—like vacations, parties, cars—with no visibility of the process that got them there.

A real, current Anthropic person just did the meme
Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.

The point of advertising is not to create as much of it as possible, as quickly as possible, as cheaply as possible. Unless your goal is to build resentment instead of a brand.

The biggest cultural divide in golf right now is between the people who learned how to play on the course and the people who learned on the internet. Really interesting dichotomy between each. Transcends all socio economic boundaries
