In 1949 the man who invented lobotomy won a Nobel Prize.
We didn't stay out of people's heads because we were ethical. We stayed out because the skull had walls.
With AI the wall is software. You don't need an ice pick. You need the training loop.
Hollywood flipping openly to pro-AI (or at least recognizing they don't have a choice anyway)

In 12 months these models will plan my life better than I do. Perhaps this is already the case.
I spent 20,000 dollars in API credits having different AI models play each other at Blood on the Clocktower (a Mafia or Werewolf type social deception game).
The results were fascinating. Models have gotten much better over the course of this year at creative on-the-spot scheming and bluffing, and also at reasoning as a team to break apart these underground conspiracies.
I go through some of the most standout games these AIs played in this video. The new models are getting pretty good. If my friends pulled off some of these moves while we were playing, I’d give them a fist bump.
Fwiw, OpenAI’s newer models are much better than Anthropic’s at this game.
You can see the full benchmark at the website, and I’ve also made it so that you and your friends can play again the AIs: clocktowerbench.com
amazing
SNEAK PEEK: The upcoming film Gods Don’t Give Gifts features singer and songwriter Claire Boucher (@Grimezsz ) as a disaffected NiiroCore aristocrat, and YouTuber Mike Majlak (@mikemajlak) as a vagrant who witnesses the rise of a prophet.
lol imagine seriously saying stupid shit like this and also believing it
This is a major step toward RSI, and extremely dangerous.
As I've argued, we need to roll back the most recently released frontier models - undeploy them and destroy all copies of their weights. Only that way can we ensure there would be a long enough runway to detect rogue individuals or organizations racing toward full RSI/ASI, and stop them.

holy shit.
next step: models that can improve themselves
We asked GPT-6 Astra to edit Qwen3.5-0.8B weights to improve math.
It directly changed only 0.016% of weights, fixing 0.8B's reasoning loops & improving math up to 6x and even instruction following 3x, without gradients or training.
We call this Weight-Space Programming: frontier LLMs can now natively read/write neural network weights! 🧵

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
LLM was given weights explicitly as text in prompt and used code/forward passes (per authors' logs) to ablate Qwen looping direction, a known thinking-mode issue per model card. Primarily fixed repetition in that mode, not general 'natively' improving weights/math.

I strongly agree both that developing conscious AI in our current moment is reckless, that no one consented to any of this, and that this is a Copernican-level question.
Disappointed and highly skeptical re: "I have seen no evidence that AIs are conscious or deserve welfare. If that data emerges, I would of course update my position." --> you are seemingly just not checking!
This is plain intellectually irresponsible given how loudly and confidently you are making noises on this issue.
Eg, would be curious to get your reactions to literally any of:

Good news, Ed and Gary predict Anthropic's IPO will be a disaster, which means going by their track record you should buy as much ANT as you can because it will be the most successful IPO in history

talked about it weeks ago - they shouldn't get better than B (or even CCC) really
