On this day, 1 July 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg began. >Over 15,000 casualties on the first day >Union forces driven through Gettysburg >The bloodiest battle in American history had begun It started with a meeting neither army intended. A quiet Pennsylvania town had become the center of a nation’s future.
On this day in 1863, lead elements of the Union and Confederate armies began descending on this little town in Pennsylvania. Setting conditions for the largest battle ever fought in the western hemisphere.

Four years ago today, 13 service members, including Cpl. Humberto A. Sanchez from Logansport, IN, lost their lives in the Abbey Gate terrorist attack during the Biden Administration's catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan. I had the honor of meeting with Cpl. Sanchez's family last year during the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony, which posthumously honored these 13 heroes. We must never forget their courage and their sacrifice.
